Tess couldn't remember entering her home, or undressing and slipping into the comfort of her bed. As the night went on, all that she could think about was that Grizz knew. He knew a secret that she had tried to repress for so long and she was chastising herself for it. She felt numb. Her mind couldn't fathom one concrete idea at a time. She did nothing, but stare idly at the ceiling above her. Despite her inner emptiness, a small part of her relaxed and felt relief when thinking about him. All of her woes and fears seemed to vanish completely. Had she always felt this way about him? Suddenly, her room was illuminated by her phone's screen and she turned beneath her comforter to reach for it from her sideboard. Grizz's name appeared on the screen.

{I'm not just going to forget about it and pretend that everything's okay}

From Grizz

Tess sighed, clenching her eyes shut: she wanted nothing more than to just forget the nights events. She was no longer having to suffer alone in everything, but Grizz knowing was making her fill with worthlessness and shame. How could she have let Campbell do this to her? To turn her into a shell of the person that she was: having to walk in trepidation all the time, for fear of doing something wrong. It made her feel weak. The one feeling, which she loathed, which represented her younger self. Mustering the courage, she began to reply.

{Sometimes, it's best to just forget. Remember first period literature - "To be able to forget means sanity."}

From Tess

Her message was read instantly and the three dots which indicated that he was already in the process of responding emerged at the bottom of her screen.

{Doing something, doing nothing or choosing not to care. You can't ask me to do either of the last two.}

From Grizz

{And what if i asked you not to care? Would that change the outcome?}

From Tess

{You don't get to do that}

From Grizz

Tess' eyebrows furrowed in confusion, at his short response. Her fingertips hovering over her screen, ready to type a message questioning his vague answer. But, another message from Grizz came through and her heart rate quickened as he continued, her eyes latched to the screen.
