Percy Lavon Julian was born in Montgomery, Albama and grew up in the time of racist Jim Crow culture. It was an era during which African Americans were facing prejudice and hate around every corner; despite all that, he eventually went on to become one of the leading chemists in the drug industry and paved the way for many plant based medications that we use in modern day society.
