Lyudmila Pavlichenko was a sniper for the Soviet Union during World War II. Credited with over three hundred kills, she was aptly nicknamed 'Lady Death' and is regarded as the most successful female sniper in history. Pavlichenko joined the army at just 24-years-old and after fighting for a little over a year, gained the ranking of lieutenant, then major, and was awarded the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union in 1943.
