I stood on the Argo II, feeling the familiar cold shivers crawl up my spine. I was becoming more and more unsure about Percy. The guy seemed pretty nice and humble in the stories.
Another shiver made its way down my spine, and I my mind set. Percy and his friends were frauds, taking advantage of everyone for fame.
I excused myself from the deck and made my way to my room. Inside a drawer lay a brown leather journal, marked with the letters "PJ". This journal was the basis of my plan. Written within the journal were harsh comments about campers at Camp Half-Blood and other rude comments about The Seven.
It had taken me a while to get everything written down, as Greek wasn't my first language. There was most likely still some errors in the spelling, but from what I heard, that was to be expected of Percy.
I made my way back on deck, where Annabeth had an unfocused look on her face. I let out a sigh. Annabeth was currently dating Percy, but in truth, I loved her. That was the only reason why I was dating Piper- to get closer to her. However, she didn't really communicate with me. I would go as far as to say she disliked me.
I could only hope that the long months that Percy was missing weakened their bond, and she would hopefully realize she had feelings for me. Annabeth was now a little more focused, but seemed a bit nervous. I had to admit, I was too. I wasn't sure how the Romans would react to their Praetor being on a warship full of Greeks.
On deck, there was suddenly a loud POP!, and a statue appeared. I recognized the statue as Terminus. I stood at the side while Annabeth spoke with Terminus. They finally came to an agreement, and Terminus allowed us entry into New Rome.
Annabeth seemed anxious to get down. We quickly scaled down the ladder and walked up towards the pavilion. In front of us was stood a face that I would never forget again. Reyna. Beside her was a man who looked distinctly Chinese, and an African American woman, who I recognized as Hazel. I wasn't sure who the Chinese guy was, though.
Beside them was a man who looked like Neptune, and radiated the power of what I imagined a god to have. I assumed he was the famed Percy Jackson.
Reyna started introduction, but in the midst of it, Percy suddenly surged forward. At exactly the same time Annabeth surged forward, and their lips connected.
I could feel my heart break a bit as I looked away. I tried not to let it show, but a small tear left my eye. I quickly wiped it away, and turned back towards the crowd. I came back just in time to see Annabeth judo flip Percy. It made me feel happy to see that, so I turned to the side to chuckle, feeling it might be inappropriate to do in public.
When I turned back again, Annabeth and Reyna were speaking about something. When they were finished, Reyna introduced the people by her side as Percy, Frank, and Hazel.
"Well, this is Annabeth. She normally doesn't Judo-Flip people," I introduced awkwardly. I quickly finished up the other introductions.
"Well, why don't we chat over some food," Reyna suggested. We all silently agreed, and made our way to the pavilion. On the tables sat mounds of food. I realized how much I missed New Rome. The food was so nostalgic that I got goosebumps.
We spoke amongst ourselves for a few minutes before a Harpy- who was apparently named "Ella"- uttered a few lines from the Prophecy of Seven, which Annabeth completed.
Everybody stared at her, and Annabeth seemed to shrink under the gazes. A few moments later, Ella spoke a few more lines that were unfamiliar.
Percy, Frank, and Hazel looked guilty, and immediately tried to cover up what she said. This made me incredibly suspicious of them. What kind of secrets did they have to hide?
Annabeth, being the good and loyal girlfriend that she was, immediately started defending Percy, without even thinking of the possibility the Percy might be in the wrong. It made me wonder how much had Percy corrupted Annabeth's mind? It seemed like all her attention was always focused on him.
I wanted to get away from it all. It hurts to see your crush with someone else.
"I would like to give Piper a tour or New Rome." I announced. Reyna's eyes turned as cold as steel, but allowed us to tour the city.
The tour was boring and uneventful. I could tell Piper was trying to make conversation, but my mind was in other places.
How could I get Annabeth to finally notice me? She's so caught up in Percy's facade.
I knew we were meant to be, only Percy was standing in the way. I found myself excitedly waiting for the next day. A grin slowly spread on my face, and Piper stared at me weirdly.
"What?" She asked, looking at herself to see if anything was wrong.
"Nothing", I reassured her, and we continued with our meaningless tour.
