The human heart has hidden treasures, In secret kept, in silence sealed; The thoughts, the hopes, the dreams, the pleasures, Whose charms were broken if revealed. - Charlotte Bronte
I was awoken abruptly by Katie's whimpering that turned into screaming. My breasts weren't able to produce milk so we agreed on Harley feeding her when she could and formula when she couldn't. Harley was still fast asleep so I made a bottle for Katie and held her in my arms as she gulped it down. Harley came into the room, her eyes barely open, and shuffled over to me and sat while Katie continued feeding.
"How's it going?" Harley asked drowsily.
"Good, I'm just tired," I replied, "How are James and Charlie doing with Jayden?"
"From what they've told me, they're doing really good," Harley said. I smiled as I looked down at our cute baby and back up to Harley. I couldn't help but feel sheer joy at our little family. I leaned my head against Harley's shoulder until Katie was done with her bottle. I returned her to her crib and left with Harley to rest for a little while longer. As soon as my head hit the pillow, my eyes closed and I was off to sleep.
In the morning, I was awoken not by Katie but by a loud banging on the door. I groggily got up, put on the closest clothes I could find and went to the door. I opened the door to Mia. She nervously shifted her feet as she looked at me. Harley came up and dragged Mia into the house. I left the room to get some coffee. I was waiting for it to brew but even with the noise, I heard somebody come in. I turned around to see Mia. She reached into her pocket, pulled out a sealed envelope and handed it to me. Before she left she came up to me and kissed me on the cheek, peeked in on Katie and left.
I opened the envelope to see a cute, homemade letter. The cover was a picture of me with rope in each corner that gave the impression that they were holding up the picture. On the end of each rope was a heart that had human features. Inside of the letter were words I could never forget: I've tried hiding my feelings but from the moment I met you, they've done nothing but grow. I want you to be the Queen of my heart.
I sunk down to the floor. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to cry or smile so I got up, brought the letter to our room and placed it next to my side, went back out and got some coffee for Harley and I. We cuddled up to each other and played our Xbox together as I tried to push those twenty-seven words out of my head. I knew I would have to confront these feelings but for now, I needed my peace, my serenity.
