"The most beautiful things are not associated with money; they are memories and moments. If you don't celebrate those, they can pass you by." - Alex Wek

"Harley?" I snapped Harley out of her trance. She jumped a bit but smiled back.

"Yeah baby?" Harley asked back. She was breathing heavily and her eyes had bags under her eyes. People shuffled around them. The party was going well so far. Their close family and friends were all here and they were getting food and socializing with one another. James and Charlie finally walked in. I got up and came to greet them. I gave each of them a hug and led them to the front.

"How are you two doing?" James asked, looking between the two of us. Harley just groaned while I told them I was good. They left to grab some food and took a seat next to us. Everything was going well until my mother walked in. My face burned with anger and I tried not to look at her. Unfortunately, she came over as soon as she found us.

"Hello Harley. Hello Rose," my mom spoke dryly.

"Hi mom," I said, looking down so as to not look at her. Harley grabbed my hand with her own and squeezed tightly. The atmosphere dropped and everybody just sat or stood awkwardly.

"I see you're busy," my mom said, her voice barely hiding her hostility.

"Yes, very," I said, "Do you want something or are you just here to have a pity party or maybe try to belittle us? Please hurry because I have my real family to focus on."

"What? Are they you're family now? More to replace your actual family probably," She nearly spat with venom while looking at James and Charlie. I was already pretty pissed. She was basically all but absent as soon as I came out and even more so when I married Harley and even more when I told her about our baby. So I did something I'm not exactly proud of.

"Yes, and you are not! Fuck you and get out of here! I don't want to see you when I get back or ever again" I screamed at her and pushed past her. Everybody looked on in shock as I stormed out of the room and went to the bathroom. I stood in front of the mirror and looked at myself. I splashed water in my face. I sank to the floor and let the tears come pouring down my face.

All of a sudden the door opened. Mia, a woman Harley worked with before the spa, walked in. She placed her hand on my shoulder and kneeled down to my side. My sobs continued for a bit longer and then slowly came down to a light sniffling. Mia held her hand out and picked me up. She took my chin in her hand and raised my face to look at hers. She closed her eyes and then opened them before speaking.

"W...We need to get back to the room Rose. Are you ready to? Your mom is gone. Harley got rid of her," Mia stuttered a bit.

"Okay, I'm ready," I took Mia's hand, "Let's go back."

"Of course sweet Rose," Mia said, gripping my hand tightly, quickly leading me back to the room. Once in the room, she quickly dropped her hand and stumbled over to a table and sat down. Harley came to my side and hugged me tightly. I wrapped my arms around her and buried my head into her shoulder. After a minute or two, we went back and sat down. The festivities started and we started having fun. The altercation was a forgotten moment once things got started.

We all laughed, ate, drank and competed in various games. Once we were all burnt out, we sat down at the front. People began bringing us gifts that people had gotten us. It was mostly very sweet cards, some with cash and others with beautiful quotes. One struck me particularly hard. Mia's card was sweet like all the others but it also had her number. I looked up and saw her shifting her body back and forth while biting her nails.

I smiled back and got up off the makeshift stage to go to the food table. I grabbed a cup of pop and sat back down. The gifts were done and we all started cleaning. Afterwards, people began filtering out of the room and headed home. We waited until everyone was gone and then headed home ourselves. At home, we popped on a movie and cuddled up to each other, letting the busy day fade away.
