Chapter 9: A Splatter Of Disaster

The next day was here, which means today is the art contest at Hanzoku Academy! Ren and Robin already signed up for the art contest yesterday Kenny thought of joining in, but he got a little nervous and reconsidered. The four members of the Phantom Thieves walk into the Academy seeing everything change. The interior had fake paint splatters on the walls and on the floor. Two long tables were in front of them as they all walk in.
"Names please," a strict woman says are she holds a clipboard ready to write something down.
"R-Ren Kincho and Robin Nakama.." Ren replies as he nearly panicked. Robin pats his shoulders giving him a smile that Ren didn't freak out that much compared to before.
"Here's your badges, just go to the left and you'll see a room with a bunch of tablets, canvases and more." The woman says as she sighs.
"T-t-thank yo-"
"Next!" The woman says completely interrupting Ren's gratitude. As Damien and Kenny got their badges, they had to go to the right because of not signing up. When Robin and Ren enter the room that looked like artist paradise, they were the only ones there for now. Robin immediately closed the door in the most sassiest way possible and stared at Ren approaching him.
"I'm bouta kick this hoes ass," Robin claims as he puts down his bag trying to find his tutu.
"Robin no it's fine!" Ren says trying to close Robin's bag.
"OH HELL NO ITS NOT FINE H O N E Y THIS BITCH GONNA INTERRUPT YOU WHEN YOU TRYNA BE GRATEFUL?" Robin's voice gets louder still searching for his tutu.
"Robin, you need to understand this.. everyone here thinks I'm an abusive child because of a false rumor spreading around ever since I got here." Ren takes a deep breath and continues "I know I won't be able to fit in no matter how much I try-" Robin lightly hits Ren on the head.
"BITCH SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU ARE LOVED THESE FAKE ASS HOES CAN SUCK MY DI-"
"Ah- sorry! Am I interrupting something?" A finials voice opens the door making the two freeze.

Jelly walks in quietly as Ren and Robin immediately get up closing Robin's bag.
"U-u-uhmm no! You're not interrupting anything at all!" Ren panics answering Jelly's question as she gives back a smile. "Sorry uhh..!! I was jus-"
"Don't worry about it man Ren just tried to comfort me I was kinda nervous that's all!" Robin quickly steps in to help Ren complete his sentence.
"Ah is that so? I'm sure you two will do an amazing job!" Jelly smiles at the two as Ren begins to malfunction. Robin quickly notices and tries to end the conversation fast.
"Ah thanks! I'm sure you'll do amazing too!" Robin smiles poking Ren as he immediately starts to pretend he's going through his bag. Wow Ren is socially awkward! Jelly smiles in response as she looks at Ren.
"Are you looking for something?" Jelly asks Ren as he immediately looks up and closes his bag.
"U-u-uhmm! Nope! I just thought I forgot something a-ahaha!!" Ren says nervously pushing up his glasses a bit.
"Ah if that's so then we have a few minutes until the contest starts, I'll be trying to get my stuff ready until then see ya!" Jelly waves at the two as they both wave back. As Jelly left the room Ren's panicky face started to look more happy and relieved.
"So uh, you like her don't you bro?" Robin asks Ren as he jumps up in denial.
"NO I DONT THIS IS JUST THE THIRD TIME WE MET HER!" Ren quickly responds as someone else walks in.
A girl that had pin of all of her favorite video games and characters all over her uniform and bag walks in waving at the two. Ren took a closer look at the girl's badge as the name written on there was "Lydia Chishiki".
"Wait a minute are you that one girl I had class with for Gym during my first year?" Robin questions Lydia as she looks towards him.
"I think so... wait you're Robin right?" Lydia asks just to make sure.
"Yes I am Robin✨" he replies as he points at Ren, "And this is my new bro! Ren!" Lydia looks at Ren as he starts panicking almost starting to visibly shake.
"This is the student that everyone says abuses his mother? He doesn't look like the type.." She's sighs as Robin pats Ren's head to comfort him. Ren looks up at Lydia.
"The rumors just started ever since I transferred here so it kinda sucks just walking around the academy by myself on the first day.." Ren sighs as he starts to look down at the ground.
"Well I think it was the other way around, I mean if you're friends with Robin then your either a crackhead or just a good person in general," Lydia says as the speakers go off.
"Attention all students! The art contest will now begin! Contestants please sit to where the drawing tablets are and audience members please find a seat in the separate room provided. The two rooms with kind of next to each other there were windows so Ren, Robin, Kenny and Damien could see each other. Taking advantage of it Robin waved at Damien as he ignores him basically feeling offended after that.
"Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the art contest! Today our lovely judges that are professional in the artist world sit here today! These professional artists will be our judges! Give them a round of applause!" Everyone started to cheer for the professionals that sat on the other side of the four contestants Ren, Robin, Jelly, and Lydia.
"Our contestants will be... Jelly Aisuru!" The crowd started cheering, "Lydia Chishiki!" The crowd cheers again, "Robin Nakama!" And the crowd goes wild! "And our new transfer student.. Ren Kincho," no one clapped expect for Kenny, Damien, Jelly, Lydia, and Robin. The judges started talking to each other whispering.
"Isn't that the transfer student that abused his mother for years?"
"I believe so.. how funny to think that he can even participate in something like this and expect to be treated like the rest."
"This kid doesn't even deserve to be sitting in that contestant seat!"
Ren immediately hears the judges. Trying not to panic he takes a deep breath and tries to stay calm.
"Anyway! There will be 3 winners! Each other them get to have free food at the most popular but expensive restaurant for the entire year! However, 1st place will get free art supplies that are the best ones and tickets to the art museum and meet the artists! 2nd place will get a free college tuition but it can be only used for one college. 3rd place will get early access to the most expensive art supplies!" The announcer says as he looks through the piece of paper. "These contestants will draw whatever is in this hat that our audience wrote down on."
Ren gulps nervously. "And the first masterpiece created will be... weapons! Contestants draw whatever weapon your heart desires!" The four quickly get their pen and tablets and started drawing. Robin went for a whip, Lydia went for the master sword, Jelly went for a gun, while Ren went for a knife. They're progress on drawing their weapons were displayed on the monitors behind them. Everyone expect for the contestants, Damien, and Kenny started whispering to each other.

"I bet that's the weapon he used to threaten his mother with."
"Probably she did report to the police yesterday about some sort of injury."
Right as a student says that, the cops opened the door Ren immediately drops his pen panicking and shaking. As the cops started to approach Ren, he quickly gets up from his seat and attempts to run off but fails due to one of the officers using their taser on him. Robin quickly gets up as Lydia and Jelly quickly grab him.
"HEY WHAT THE HELL MAN?! HE DIDNT DO SHIT!" Robin yells as the cops drag Ren's unconscious body.
"You really don't know this kid that much don't you? Don't try to intrude or we'll take you too." One of the officers says as they leave the room. The announcer completely shocked coughed sarcastically.
"Sorry about that incident I guess we'll just have to vote based on works that they've done before! Now let's get started shall we?" The contestants started to feel an uncomfortable atmosphere. Robin stared at Kenny and Damien mouthing to them, "Go and follow where they're taking Ren." They both nod quickly leaving their seats.

Damien and Kenny act fast and grab their bike and started to follow the police car. When they started to lose the car they started to get worried.
"Damn it you know what I'm switching to my scooter!" Kenny pushes the button on his bike morphing into a scooter. Damien nods and does the same catching up with the car. Once they reach to the station, they saw Ren's hands cuffed together still unconscious. The police dragged him in order for him to be taken to interrogation. A male figure that looked familiar had a worried expression on his face.
"Hey doesn't he go to our school?" Kenny asks Damien.
"Yes he does you clown, he's the one that a detective did you already forget?" Damien asks as he starts to approach him. Kenny started mumbling and talking back. The two talked to the high school detective. "Hey is Ren going to be okay?" Damien asks straight away. He did nothing but nod showing a yes.
"They don't have key evidence that he injured his mother but he'll be here just for today unfortunately." The detective sighs as he starts to make his way into the building. "Oh and also I already know he isn't guilty, I have evidence to prove so. I'm sure he'll be on probation for a year though since a lot of students told the police a lot about him." The detective says as Damien and Kenny look at each other.
"Make sure he's okay and the cops don't hurt him alright?" Kenny says to the detective as he nods. The two decide to take their leave going back to the Academy.
When the two arrived back from the police station, the three contestants walked outside with the medals around them. Robin had gold, Lydia had silver, and Jelly had bronze.
"So is Ren okay?" Robin immediately asks the two as they nod.
"He's alright, but he'll have a day in jail and he'll be on probation for a whole year. So if he messes up he'll be screwed for the rest of his life." Damien explains to the three as Kenny looks worried.
"Hey how about tomorrow we can all go to the restaurant? They did say we can bring as many friends as we want." Jelly suggests as everyone nods, especially Robin and Kenny.
"What time though? Plus who will get Ren?" Robin asks as Jelly raises her hand to volunteer.
"I'll just text you guys when he gets out," Jelly replies and they all get their phones out exchanging numbers to create a group chat. The five of them take their leave just hoping that Ren will be okay during the interrogation. Well, the police did use a taser on him so it should be serious.
