"What? Luck and Destiny are hardly different! You need one to believe in the other."
Emmet and I climbed the stairs of the school as the warning bell rang,
I turned to him, he had this smart ass grin spread across his face."Destiny is the belief that things happen for a reason, that everything's planned out and it all works out in the end. Which might I say is bullshit. Luck is having something turn out right by chance, not because its preplanned by some God or higher power."
I continued my way up the stairs but my little speech seemed to have stopped Emmet in his tracks.
"If you don't believe in destiny what's there to believe in?" He asked me, no hint of joking in his voice.
"I can't believe I'm having this conversation with a stranger. I have a class to get to and a bell that's going to go off any second."
To prove my point the final bell went of, signaling the late slip I would now be needing for class.
"Destiny." Emmet said in a sing song voice.
"Coincidence." I replied in a matter of fact town.
"Oh God," He said rolling his eyes, "You're one of them."
I didn't know who this kid was but he was starting to get on my last nerve. "One of who?"
"Those 'things just happen, there's no reason behind it' no believers." He raised his voice, doing his best to mimic me.
"Well its true! Why believe in something that isn't there, that you have no control of?"
"Because that's half the fun, seeing where the road will take you."
"I can't deal with this." I said sprinting ahead of him, "Look it was nice meeting you, well not really, but I have a class to get too."
"I'll see you later then Jade." Emmet walked away as I hurried to my class. What was up with this kid and his certainty of their being a destiny to follow?
"You're a little late Ms.Luck." My chemistry teacher sent a scowl to me as I slipped into my desk.
"Sorry Mrs.Dunty." I mummbled, embarrased that I had been called out in front of the class.
"See me at break, as I was saying. Our new unit is going to be balancing equations. It's quite-" A knock on the door silenced my teacher and her boring speech. Mrs. Dunty stomped her way to the door and swung in open, stepping into the hallway.
"I have no idea how that women is married." I looked to see the voice coming from Brett Landmark, sitting to my left.
"Her husband must be deaf."
Brett let out a low laugh as I smiled at my own joke. I felt bad for making fun of my teacher but she had just called me out in front of the class.
"Class quite down, we have a new student, Emmet please take a seat."
I looked up from the homework I was rushing to finish to see the same Emmet I had met that morning walk into the room. We immideatley locked eyes, a smile spread across his face and he began walking towards me.
"No such thing as destiny eh?" He plopped his books on the desk next to mine and sat down.
"Some one sits there, Abby." I blurted out.
"I don't see an Abby sitting here now." He shot me a playful winked.
I looked away to pay attention back to what Mrs.Dunty was explaining.
"Does any one know the first three Greek Prefixes."
"Mono, Di, and Tri." Emmet was answering the question much to my surprise.
"Yes, excellent Emmet!"
"How about the next-" Once more Mrs. Dunty was cut short, this time by the bell. "Do questions one to seven for homework. Have a good day class, Jade, see me at break."
I sulked out of my seat and into the hallway jam packed with students. Slowly I made my way to my next class but was stopped short by a large body blocking my classroom door.
"Ms. Luck?" The large man spoke.
"Yes?"
"I need you to come with me." The next thing I knew a hand wrapped around my wrist and I was dragged down the hallway.
