"Maurice, why do you have so much candy floss with you, who's going to eat all of that?" Thembi asked as she gave me a funny look. I had five different flavors of candy floss with me so my hands were full and Thembi wasn't doing anything to help me, all she did was look at me as if I'm on drugs.
"Do you mind giving me a hand?" I asked. She looked at me for a little while longer before shaking her head and taking some.
"Candy floss, candy floss, candy floss!" Royalty said excitedly while jumping up and down. She seemed to be the only one out of the kids that was excited about it. Thembi's boys were not interested at all, they didn't even approach her when she called them to come and get some.
"I told you that my kids wouldn't eat this thing and neither would I, I don't know why you bought this much." She said in an annoyed tone. She tried calling her boys one more time but they ignored her, they were more interested in what the little white boy they were talking to was doing with his dog.
"I'm sorry I wasn't thinking I have a lot of stuff going on in my mind." I said. "Oh really, like what?" she asked before taking a bite at one of the candy floss that was in her hand. She made a face after doing that which caused me to laugh. "Why don't you like this stuff anyway? It's sweet and delicious."
"I hate this shit it takes like flavored cotton wool. I'm only eating this one cause I don't want a whole lot of it to go to waste." she said. I glanced at Royalty who was sitting next to me and I watched her having the time of her life enjoying the candy floss that was in her hands.
"What's occupying your mind so much?" Thembi asked before she took another bite of her candy floss. I sighed before I answered her. "I'm just thinking about the conversation I had with my mom earlier about my brother. I was on a phone call with my sister as well and we started talking about her biological mother, there's a lot of family drama that's going on, on my side at the moment."
She looked at me with a frown before she said "Oh I'm sorry, sometimes I forget that you have an older sister and younger brother, it feels like you the only child."
"It's okay they kinda feel like strangers to me cause I hardly ever talk to them." we both laughed after I said that before things got quiet.
There is something that I wanted to ask her and I think now would be a good time to do that. "So, Kings funeral is this weekend..." I said as I glanced at her. She looked at me with a sad expression before slowly nodding her head.
