Even if you slept on the plane you're going to be pretty tired, it's a long trip. If you arrive in the morning DO NOT GO TO SLEEP, it's easier to stay awake and sleep the following evening to shake off the jet lag. If you arrive in the evening, get to your hostel and sleep.

•I know you're tired, but be polite through customs, they can be known to give you a hard time if you're rude.

•Remind yourself to buy toilet paper.

•You will be given a 30 day visa upon arrival. do not overstay your visa. *ignore this if you pre applied, which I highly reccomend. You can check the thai embassy site online to learn more about visas, and what's best for you.

•Start downing water. It's hot. It's humid. You wont feel dehydrated, but you will be, drink way more (bottled only) water than you normally would.

•Go to an ATM and take out 2000 baht for the cab/ snacks/ etc

•As you are leaving the airport, you will see many opportunities to get a cab for you. Take the airport cab, and pay close attention to how much they charge you for the distance you went. This is a good benchmark in the future to use, as they can't barter and over charge like tuk tuk drivers and in-city cabbies.

•After you've found your bearings at your hostel/hotel your first stop needs to be 7-11. You can pick up a thai sim card for around 200 baht, that should hold you over your entire trip, I wouldn't rely on it for WIFI, as it can break up at times while traveling. as you use the card you'll get texts from the provider that give you more "internet time" take the deals- it's a good way to make your sim card go farther. You can also buy your train and bus tickets here. Pick up a bottle of baby powder (every 7-11 will have this) it's great for wicking away sweat and staying cool. Get a roll of toilet paper. Most public washrooms wont have it, or will charge you for it. also you'll likely encounter public bathrooms that have an entrance fee around 5 baht
