Chapter one: The Invitation

On a late Friday evening, all is calm and peaceful in Grants Park. That is, if you didn't see the girl in the sweats running past you. She seemed to be beside herself as she raced through the park, only slowing down, but never stopping, when she heard others nearby. She ran nearly 5 miles just to get there and the expression she wore on her face showed it, but from on the outside looking in, it was hard to tell whether it was of fatigue or worry.

On the inside she felt an uncomfortable urgency to make it to the water front, regardless of how late she was. She knew he would still be there waiting, and she hated the fact that he was willing to wait so long on her when he could be doing other things with his spare time. As she darted around the corner and down the path leading to her destination, she glanced on the very spot they both agreed to meet up at. Her heart sank when she didn't spot him directly, but as she got closer she began to breathe a sigh of relief.

There he was, laid out on his back asleep on the very bench they shared their first evening together. "He must have had a long day" she thought as she walked over. It was such a rare sight for her to see him like this as he looked as peaceful as a newborn infant. She wished she had a camera to take a picture of him, but wasn't sure if he was just resting his eyes or really in a deep sleep. It really was such a beautiful image to her as she edged closer to him. "So calm, so peaceful." she thought while she hovered over him, trying not to disturb him with her heavy breathing. She leaned closer to his side as she whispered ever so gently into his ears.

"Buenos días mi precioso tonto" His body stirred as he slowly opened his eyes to connect with hers.

"...Lisa? Hey," He said as he raised himself up rather lazily to greet her. She smiled at the sight. He looked so adorable; she just couldn't wait to get her arms around him.

"Good morning sleepy head!" She squeezed him tightly before sitting next to him. He could tell by the way she was breathing that she must have run all the way just to see him but tried not to make a big deal out of it.

"Sorry for taking so long," She said once her heart rate began to drop a bit. "Got a little bit carried away today while working out and totally lost track of the time." She smiled her carefree smile at him just to let him know that she was alright. "So how was your day today Tonto? Anything odd happen today at work?"

"No," He sighed "Not really, just the usual mishaps."

"Oh I see, Skullz kept you on your toes again huh?"

He smiled that little grin of his. "I suppose you could say that."

"What did he do this time?" she said with a hint of excitement in her voice.

"Well, he wanted to see how many pepper jack beef jerky's he could stuff up his nose before sneezing. Naturally, it didn't go so well and he ended up causing a huge mess on the checkout counter. Of course once Mizuki found out about it all, she was furious and Skullz only made things worse by making fun of her height and kept asking if he should get the ladder or should he just kneel down to make it easier for her. So I decided to step in before she killed him and helped him clean up the mess again. So I guess all things considered, you could say it was a rather eventful day, but then again what day isn't when you're dealing with Skullz Mc Neal."

She laughed. He and Skullz always seemed to get themselves into something bizarre and she loved to hear all about it. What made it so enjoyable wasn't just the unbelievable things that happened, but the way that he told the story as if this was the norm for them. And from what she could tell, it was. It seemed like things always played out in a similar fashion, Skullz would always get into something then drag Tim into it as well, and no matter how grim things looked, everything seemed to work out just fine in the end. Just like in the movies or television where the hero always prevails and sets things back in order again.
