Chapter Two: All In The Family
As T-Man walked up the steps to his apartment, all he could think about was how things would play out when he came over to visit Lisa and the rest of her family. From what little he was able to gather from their many conversations with each other (via instant messaging online) he knew that they all pretty much lived together in one small apartment space. He knew that her and her aunt shared a room for a while up until her aunt's pregnancy and that her cousins were always in and out of the house.
He also knew that they usually had family meals on a regular bases and that more than likely he'd surely be dropping into one by agreeing to show up, but despite the nervousness he felt in the pit of his stomach, he knew that overall the night should turn out to be a fairly decent one. But the thing that bugged him the most was how her grandmother would perceive him. He could tell already that she didn't like the fact that they were spending soo much time together and that more than likely he was going to be scolded by her and tested all night to see if he truly was worthy of even being in the same room as her granddaughter. But he figured she generally was a kindhearted individual. After all, she was the one who raised Lisa to be the young lady she is today, so she can't be all that bad now can she?
A smile ran across his face as it always does whenever he thinks of her as he hoped himself up to the doorsteps of his family's residence. It wasn't much, but compared to most projects in the city, it was a respectable and decent neighborhood. Not to say that it was completely cleansed of criminal activity, but in his eyes, it was better than nothing. Slowly, with the turn of his key, he unlocked the door to his apartment and was greeted with the bold grin of his father who patted him on the back as he let him in.
"Hey! What took you so long? Forgot where you live again?"
"Na," Laughed T-Man "Just took the long way home again, that's all."
They walked further into the living room and sat on opposite ends of the couch. His father was watching something on the history channel about medieval times. He figured he'd wait a bit before making the journey towards his bedroom. Besides, with their busy work schedules they hardly had time to sit down and enjoy each other's company like they used to.
"So how was your day at work? Anything special happen?"
"Not really, just the usual."
"Uh huh." His father said as they watched a man's head being chopped off. "So how's school coming along? Get your homework done already?"
"Yea, pretty much. I just gotta..." a bewildered look came across his father's face as if he'd seen a ghost or something.
"Pretty much?" he repeated. He looked at the clock and then back at his son. "You do know what time it is right?"
"Yea, it's not much really, just one or two problems left. I got most of it done before work though, so I was going to finish the rest after dinner."
"All right now. I better not hear any bad reports from school saying you've been turning in late work or else."
"Don't worry, you won't. It'll be done before tonights over."
