Chapter 17

Niall’s POV

We walked down the stairs to go and eat breakfast. Today I was planning on taking Liam on a tour of Mullingar because he’d only been here once before. I told him our plans over a wonderful breakfast of eggs, bacon, and of course POTATOES!!! He smiled and agreed so we went upstairs to get dressed and shower.

We were out the door an hour later, I excitedly grabbed his hand pulling him down the sidewalk to all my favorite places. First we visited my old grade school, where I spent some great times as a kid. Next we went to my high school. I took him to see all my favorite places in town after that, mostly restaurants. And soon we found ourselves walking hand in hand through the local park. We sat down on the bench and I put my head on his shoulder. We sighed and sat like that for a while before Liam cleared his throat. I looked up at him and he sighed. “I love you so much Nialler” he said and I sighed, “But I love you more” I said. We continued to sit like that for ages.

I must have nodded off for a bit because next thing I knew I was being shaken awake by Liam. I opened my eyes to see the sky dark. What time is it? I thought but I didn’t really care. Liam looked at his phone, “Niall its 7 pm we should probably go back to the house now” he said. I nodded and stood up stretching. I yawned, “Why didn’t you wake me earlier?” I asked and he laughed, “Because I fell asleep too.” He said. We walked back to my house slowly holding hands like a married couple. That was something to think about me and Liam married. I wonder if that would ever be legal in London.

I suddenly stopped as that thought passed through my head and a tear slid down my face. What if we never could get married? Liam ran to me concerned, “Ni what’s wrong are you okay?” he asked sounding extremely worried. My bottom lip quivered and all of a sudden I was sobbing into his chest. I don’t know what came over me but suddenly I felt the need to cut again. Why did this need to be so hard. Why couldn’t gay marriage be legal? I calmed down a bit and I pulled out of Liam’s grasp. He looked down at me with his big brown puppy dog eyes. “Niall are you okay?” he asked again. I sighed, “I was just thinking about us walking down the street like a married couple, and then I realized that probably won’t happen. Gay marriage isn’t legal in the UK! We’re not going to be able to have a proper wedding and be a real married couple. Then Li I started having thoughts of cutting again and I got really scared. I just don’t really know what came over me. I’m sorry.” I said and Liam looked at me. “Niall I promise that I will get us married legally even if we have to travel out of the country. Plus I heard that they are currently trying to legalize gay marriage in the UK. Also Nialler I’ll never let you hurt yourself ever again. If you ever have any bad thoughts about yourself come to me don’t go for the blade. You are the most beautiful person I’ve ever met in my entire life and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Remember even when things get tough I’ll always be here for you.” He said pulling me into a long hug. “But we should really get going now, it’s getting late.” He added. I laughed and nodded. He grabbed my hand interlocking our fingers as we walked down the street.
