Rain Clouds in July

Music floods my ears

like a rush of water on the shore,

filling a small hole dug by

smiling children.

Faces are red from the scorching heat,

but upturned on the hot summer's day.

Ice cream melts

and runs down chins;

salad spoils like the mood.

Rain clouds form at her arrival-

the weather is always unexpected.

I am always prepared

with an umbrella or sunscreen.
