"Name... oh hey Sidney!" Ms. Denise said.

"Hey girl," I smiled.

"She's over on the deck," she smiled before I nodded and walked over.

My mom sat at a table shuffling cards. I set down my purse before she looked up. A big smile spread across her face before she stood up and hugged me.

She looked good. She looked happy.

"How you been baby?" She asked as I sat down.

"I can't complain," I sighed.

"I hear that. You stopped visiting for a little while... had me in here bored as hell," she smiled but I could tell she was hurt.

"I'm sorry-"

"Don't be. You don't owe me nothin," she said.

"How you been?" I asked.

"I been Alright. I'm ready for some real food though," she replied.

"Ma, the only reason they took it away is because of you have high blood pressure-"

"I don't give a damn what the fuck I got. I'd rather die with a good meal than live the rest of my life unsatisfied and hungry," she said causing me to shake my head.

"I got a boyfriend," I said looking down.

"What he look like?" She asked me with a smirk causing me to laugh.

I showed her a picture causing her to nod in approval.

"He cute girl... y'all fuckin?" She asked causing me to nod.

"Yo daddy don't know do he?" She asked.

"Nah," I shook my head.

"Y'all ain't raw dawgin is you?" She asked causing me to shake my head.

"You lyin But Okay. Don't do that shit again," she said and I nodded.

"Homecoming is tomorrow," I sighed.

"Uh oh... I know that look. What happened?" I asked.

"You remember Alli?" I asked and she nodded.

"Von- that's his name- is her brother and she's like mad at me for dating him-"

"How long has this been going on?" She asked with her eyebrows furrowed.

"I don't know.. a while-"

"Why is she mad?"

"I don't know. At first she said he doesn't deserve me and that I'm being dumb for messing with him and then she said I'm not good enough for him. And then my other friend Dansia is taking her side and didn't even ask for my side of the story-"
