Senior year. The time known for determining your future, the last chance you get to be a kid before becoming an "adult." One more year to live before entering the real world and having everything change into one big complication.
My family and I all had it planned out. We weren't the richest, but it meant everything to my family for me to go to college. I knew they would push me to get into college, any college that would offer a full ride, since they didn't get to go. I was set on the University of California. It was nothing major but California has just always been the place I thought I needed to be. I could be myself for once.
I wanted nothing more than to get out of Arizona. It's all I've ever known, but I've always felt trapped here. I constantly wanted to impress my parents, and mostly myself. I wasn't sure if my parents were proud of me nothing seemed to satisfy them, but it meant just as much to me to get into a good college as it did to them. This could be my ticket out. Away from the constant stress of my family, away from the reminders that I wouldn't be good enough . I was tired of, "You can do better".
" Your sister passed that honors class with an even higher score."
"Make sure you study and practice for the big game on Friday"
I never got a break, but I was determined to get that scholarship. Whatever it takes.
At least that was what I thought until the mysterious new kid drew me to him every time I looked into his eyes. It was so easy for me to figure people out , but he was different. I was curious. I knew this exploring could ruin everything I've worked for but there was no escaping him. The tall boy with the deep brown eyes was going to change everything.
