Evey's Lament

Evey's skin pricked as the silence of the underground was penetrated by the echo of multiple gunshots.

V, she thought miserably as she hugged her arms around herself.

She prayed those guns were not aimed at V, but in the back of her mind she knew they must be. What was he doing? Was he alright? Was this part of his complex scheme or was he laying somewhere, bleeding out alone on the cold floor of the tunnels? She wanted to run to him so badly but what could she possibly do for him now? His plan was already in motion.

Tears pricked Evey's eyes as she glanced once again at the train and the lever.

Please, god, please... let him live... please.

Evey shuddered to think that she may never see her friend alive again.
