The next morning Jaz introduced me to Gary Reynolds. Let's say, someone who was to sign me up for Emperor crew.

Actually I had lots of questions. I wasn't going to sign without knowing the details.

"So you wanted to join the crew ,sir?" Asked Mr. Reynolds.

"Ah yes! But first I needed you to tell me more about this crew and navy.."

He ordered a drink and then fixed his look on me. An almost tall gentleman with fancy clothes. He had very small wrinkles over his eyes and his hair had some grey hairs among them.

"Do you know what privateer is Mr. Agreste, sir?" He asked shifting his look to the papers in front of him.

Before I could answer he was telling me "They’re buccaneers given letters of marque by the Crown. You see, the Dons and the Portuguese are helping themselves to the treasures of the New World, they’re filling their coffers, and it’s the job of privateers either to stop them or to take what they’re taking. Do you understand?"

I paused for a moment

"I know that you can’t be put on trial for piracy, so long as you don’t attack ships belonging to your own country, that’s it, isn’t it?" I asked.

"That's it Mr. Agreste, sir" He said as a grin was drawn on his face.

"..but isn't it stealing? I don't want a money made from stealing.." I said turning my face and leaning forward on my drink.

"Well, How would it be if I leaned over and was to help myself to a mug of ale? That’d be stealing, wouldn’t it? The barman might try to stop me, but what if I was doing it with impunity. What if my theft had the royal seal of approval? This is what we are talking about, Mr. Agreste. The opportunity to go out on the high seas and help yourself to as much gold and treasure as your captain’s ship will carry. By doing so you will not only be working with the approval of Her Majesty Queen Anne but helping her. You’ve heard of Captain Christopher Newport, Francis Drake, Admiral Sir Henry Morgan, privateers all. How about adding the name Adrien Agreste to that illustrious list?"

He was talking about money and fame. The things that I didn't even think of. I mean I just wanted to be free. But life costs right?

Imagining my future self in that position, it didn't sound that bad. I could have my own ship, my own crew, my own money, and my own freedom.

Gary Reynolds assigned me to the crew of Emperor. Docked in Bristol harbour and leaving in two days.

I didn't have much to do except practicing fencing and helping Jaz out.

And those nights were my last best nights in my hometown. Drinking and listening to stories, was fun really. I also told stories. Boasted about my very bright future as privateer. I was happy. Happier than I was at father's.

But their looks told me one thing. I was too big for my boots. They all wished me luck and said they're happy for me. But all those fake words made me wonder.

Am I man enough to survive a life as a privateer? Am I going to return with my tail between my legs? And yea, I might die.

Also they were right. I couldn't returned even if I regretted everything and wanted to come back.

I destroyed the bridges behind me, that's true. But I preferred it all to that stupid life. I barely was living.

The day that Emperor was due to leave has came.

I was nervous. Didn't know what's going to happen. But I was excited as well.

After leaving Jaz and having a very long goodbye, I finally moved on. I rode a horse that I just bought from a man in bar to Bristol.
