Caleb’s POV

I shifted into my wolf form and gave full control to my wolf Oliver. He stretched his long limbs and shook his white fur. The only marks on our snowy coat, the black nose and ears. With a start he leaped into action darting and running through the forest away from our territory and into the neutral zone. As we crossed the border, Oliver let out a large howl, a battle cry, a signal to the rest of the pack that we are strong, we are brave, and we will find out Luna.

Slowing down to a walk, Oliver pushed me in control of his form so that the fight could be strategically fought. I walked carefully forward and scouted the area, I could smell maybe 20 guards around the area, but I knew as soon as we attacked the whole pack would know.

Everyone circle the guards and attack one to each small group, dispose of them as quick as you can because we need as much surprise factor as possible.” I mindlinked my fighters and they all started moving to their positions.

My 150ish fighters all quickly attacked at once and once they were dealt with, we sprinted to the pack house. Teeth were gnashing, biting, tearing into flesh, and all around me death was occurring. Most of our fighters remained uninjured still as we had the upper hand in numbers, strength and surprise factor.

I sniffed around, trying to smell any scent that could belong to my mate, the whole reason for this war. If she was here, I needed to find her quickly so none of my pack accidently killed her. I looked around for any suspicious activity and as I was just about to turn around I caught sight of a half-hidden building which looked like it was falling down.

It was overgrown in vines and the wood was rotting and filled with mould, All I could smell was the smell of death, rotting flesh and stale water, the drip, drip sound echoing in the seemingly empty space.

I carefully walked further in, holding my breath and straining my ears for any sign of life, each room investigated looking dark and empty. Almost at the end, my wolf suddenly starts getting restless, and not more than five seconds later, I hear a wheeze. It sounded like the person was almost dead, which is probably why I couldn’t smell them as the scent fades as the person grows weaker.

I round the next corner quickly, my wolf edging me onwards and race into the darkest room. As soon as I open the door, the smell of coconut and mango overwhelms my senses, throwing my wolf into a frenzy, “Mate, MATE!” he screams at me. I look ahead and what I see completely leaves me speechless…

The on a bed, was my beautiful mate, chained with silver. Nothing covering her pale, thin body except for a rag covered in blood and grime. Pale scars alongside fresh wounds, still gushing blood cover her short frame from head to toe. She looks like a skeleton with a small amount of skin, stretched to the limit, trying to cover her brittle body.

I jumped into action, racing towards the bed and using my alpha strength ripped the silver chains from her body, freeing her. My hands burnt from the short contact, and as I looked at my precious mate’s hands and feet, I could see how red and blistered they were.

She must be in so much pain and loosing to much blood as she was unconscious and fell limp in my arms as I picked her up to carry her out of the collapsing building.

Jax, I found her, wrap up the fight and let’s go!”

I quickly raced her out to the waiting paramedics of my pack and they got to work. After about 10 minutes, a drip was attached, injuries stitched, and werewolf strength pain relief injected.

“This should hopefully stabilise her until we reach the hospital,” my pack doctor Isa stated.

Nodding in approval I jumped in the car with her, holding her hand and waiting impatiently for us to get a move on to go home.

“Alpha, we have successfully won the war and only lost two of our fighters however many are injured.” Beta Jax told me.

The pack hospital was already ready and waiting, being prepared before the war began, however, as I didn’t fight in the war this time like I normally do, I didn’t know what number of injured patients we had.

I looked to my mate and breathed out, as long as she was going to be okay, everything would be fine. I smiled, rubbing my thumb over her hand and breathed in her scent, the mango and coconut aroma, already relaxing my worried mind.

I just wanted to make sure she got enough food and rest so that she could get healthy and get her wolf back. Oliver had told me that he couldn’t communicate with her yet as the silver was blocking her off from us. I could tell it was making him nervous as well because he was pacing back and forth in my mind, not wanting to settle at all.

Arriving at the hospital, I jumped up from my seat and moved out the way so that she could get help faster, even though I wanted to be close to her and never let her go, the professionals needed space to be able to help her to the best of their abilities.

They carried her in and placed her in the intensive care unit…wait intensive care, I thought she would just go into emergency! She must be in a worse condition than I had originally thought she was in. Following closely, I watched as they settled her into the bed and started attaching tubes, wires and devices all over her body. Once they seemed done, I pulled Dr Isa away from the others.

“What is wrong with her?” I asked quietly.

“She has malnutrition which is making her organs shut down, internal bleeding and multiple broken bones. We haven’t had time to assess anything else yet sorry.” She states looking me dead in the eyes.

“Will she make it?” My emotions are really starting to get the best of me and I’m starting to really shake badly.

“To be honest, we are not sure, but we did find something else when we were examining her injuries…” She trailed off looking away.

“What!?” My heart is racing and dread settles in the pit of my stomach.

“She is marked…”

And with that, my heart felt like it tore in two.

Duhduhduh! Cliff hanger, sort of haha. He found his mate...but not in the best condition. Did you like the chapter? Who's POV do you prefer? His wolf is at the top if you wanted a visual :) Please comment and vote, it helps me get motivated to write more haha. Thanks my lovelies xoxo!
