chapter four
.
Lillian was dumbfounded; lost for words, even.
Yes, it was wrong that Roger had kissed her.
But even worse that she had kissed back.
But how could she not? She hadn't kissed anyone since the ripe age of seventeen, nearing eleven years ago. It was just out of instinct as she finally received some of the affection she was longing for.
But Roger initiated the kiss, not to mention, leant in first.
"Roger, I'm sorry, but... that's not how it works!"
"What do you mean? I took my wedding ring off bec-"
"Because you wanted to kiss me. Did you just expect me to be a quick shag, and that's all?"
"No, Lil-"
"Don't call- no, you don't deserve to call me that!"
"Sorry... but, please, just would you list-"
Looking up to the sky that had started to darken as the night drew closer, she could see the earlier of the bright stars were beginning to become hazy by the thickness of a grey cloud covering them, almost representing exactly how she felt right now.
"No!"
Why had she let him into her life?
Originally, because it was all completely platonic, nothing to do with falling in love with each other at all, nothing to do with becoming each other's number one.
Roger was to become Lillian's number one, only because she had no one while he had someone. His wife, to be exact, yet, she couldn't fathom why he had chosen the act of whipping off his wedding band and opting to kiss her instead, a girl he had met less than twelve hours prior.
Only, he had a reason.
But would he get the explanation to her in time before he lost both his (soon to be ex) wife and best friend in one go?
.
Storming down the path of the park and past Rogers car, Lillian looked to both sides of herself before crossing the road halfway and stopping as she waited for the traffic light to go red to let her across, when she felt Roger's presence creep behind her.
"Your car..." She began, nodding her head backwards to initiate direction. "'s back there Roger, don't waste your time explaining something that won't fix anything." Lillian said before beginning to cross the road, not even stepping her whole foot onto the cement before being pulled back and turned around by a distressed Roger.
"You don't understand-"
"Roger! I do! I do understand, because I'm no idiot! I know for a fact that the line 'you don't understand' is something that would have left your mouth multiple times in explanations to win something you can't have back," Lillian harshly spat. "You cant do this to your wife, Roger. She's at home, waiting or you to return to her-"
"No! Lillian! This is where you don't listen!" Roger exclaims in near stress. "She hates me!"
"I doubt it, Roger. Why would you have the wedding band on your finger in the first place if she hated you, hm? I remember seeing the article about your wedding in the paper just over a year ago... she can't hate you already."
