It was a gloomy monday morning. Since it was almost november, the days are getting shorter and chillier. Avalon was forced into a school uniform that consisted of a black pleated skirt, a white long sleeve button up shirt with a pine green blazer. She paired it with her usual knee socks and pulled out her black and white oxfords, while most girls wore flats or boots. She grabbed her backpack from the bottom of her packed suitcase from the floor and waited for Valerie to finish getting ready for the first day of school. She stood in front of the floor length mirror putting the final touches on her mascara. Val nodded saying that she was ready for first period class. The dorms were separate from the classrooms, you would have to walk across the courtyard to get to class. All of the subjects were all combined into one building but it had five different floors for English, Science, History, Music and Art, and Mathematics. They both had homeroom first then they would go their separate ways from there. As the day went by, Avalon went to High Art, Ancient History, English 11, and then her last hour was Science. But she took her choice of Anatomy over Biology. She loved to study the human body, muscles, and joints. She knew all two-hundred and six bones in the human body to all the joint names and muscles, she knew it all.

As she walked down the science hallway, she noticed that it was very empty. While she had science everyone else had either English or History at that time. Most people when they took science as a choice they would choice Biology or Chemistry. Rarely anyone chose Anatomy, but she was thrilled they had it as a choice. She looked down at her schedule in hand and read, L1 N166, meaning level one, north part of the building in room one-sixty-six. She walked around that floor for a good ten minutes before she found the room at the end of a dark hallway, but she could see a faint light from underneath the door. She knocked then entered the room. The room was lit up with three lanterns hung from the ceiling. She looked around the room, it had such architecture within the wall and banisters. She also saw old bones from animals and a skeleton of a human on a stand. She smiled to herself, then heard a crash behind her. Quickly turning around, she saw a old man in a lab coat and slacks. He had round spectacles on the bridge of his nose, hiding his aged blue eyes away. The man was startled to see the young girl in his room, why? Because he has not had a student in a very long time. No one ever chose Anatomy because they were creeped out by the bones and dissecting of animals being done, but Avalon loved it. He spoke to her, 'Biology is further down the hall.' He then walked over to his desk, but Avalon tilted her head at him and spoke, 'I am not in the wrong room Professor, it says room one-sixty-six here.' She held out her schedule and pointed to where it said that. The man turned around and took the piece of paper from here, she was right. He looked down at her being over six foot, she gave him a small smile.

He nodded and told her to sit down in one of the old desks. She smiled and nodded frantically and took front and center. She was ready to learn and was very excited about it. The man told her his name, Professor Darwin, and gave her a thick text book at the same time. Since she was the only one in the class, he gave her a project to do. She was suppose to build a arm out of the supplies he gave her. All of the bones must be in place, with the joints too. It would be able to move by tbe time she would be done with it. She nodded and wrote it down on a piece of paper he provided. He taught her the basics of the joints like the ball and socket, hinge, gliding and the saddle. She drew out diagrams in detail and labeled all of them according to the type. She spent almost three hours in that class and that was only on her own time since it was after school hours. When she walked into the courtyard, it turned from day to night, wow. She looked up and saw stars above her in the sky. She also loved to look at stars during the night and sometimes would even draw her own interpretation of one in her sketch book. It was about nine p.m., since she had class from ten a.m. to three p.m. everyday and spent an extra two hours in Anatomy. She sat down on a bench that surrounded the fountain in the middle of the courtyard, which was still on since nothing was frozen over yet. She loved the feeling of being by herself, alone with no one around her. There was a slight breeze in the air but nothing else but silence.

She sat there for a while just admiring the clear night sky out. But she then felt no alone, she looked around the courtyard but saw nothing. She subconsciously took a hold of her locket and felt a sudden rush of fear up her spine. But when she heard a low gnarl, that had done it. She sprinted from her spot on the bench and to the door of the girls dormitory. Running down the corridor and into her dorm, she breathed out quick breathes, hyperventilating. She fell to the floor and tears started to form in her eyes. Valerie was still awake and by her side in a split second but their other roommate was out cold on her bed. Val took a hold of the sides of frail girls face and looked into her luminous azure eyes. They held panic, fear, and uneasiness. Valerie hugged her as they were sat on the floor, trying to ease her. Val did not know what was wrong with her, but wanted to know but also knowing not to force her new friend into anything she did not want. As the clock struck ten p.m. Avalon was asleep in Valeries bed while she took Avalons bed, but Val kept in mind to get her some new sheets and blankets, because she brought nothing else. But Valerie did not go to sleep, she got up from bed and slipped on her shoes and walked out into the courtyard. She did not know what she was looking for, but wanted to know what scared Avalon almost to death. Then she heard it, that same loud bellowing of a growl. She listened again as she followed it. Walking out of the gates to the courtyard and toward the wooded area by the pond, it became louder as she got closer. She stopped at the edge of the pond with the wooded area on the side of pond. Then she saw it. She saw the glow of golden amber eyes between the dark shadows of the trees. She blinked again but they were still there, but they then turned infrared crimson red color, he was mad. She sprinted back to the dorms like her heals were on fire.
