Her Song
Life works in mysterious ways.
A week ago, Jieun would have never thought that she would be preparing herself to go to his fansign event.
When she got notified that she won the spot, she was flabbergasted. She had done her research on how fansigns work, and people had to buy plenty of albums to win their spot. Usually, the bigger the group, the more albums you would have to buy.
The duo he's promoting in right now was by no means small - she'll consider her musical dreams fulfilled if she had even a quarter of their fans. The fact that she bought one one album and still won a spot was incredible.
Wow, I guess I must be really, really lucky then. Or maybe fate decided it was time for me to meet him again.
Despite all her nerves and worries, Jieun was esctatic about her chance to meet him once again. She truly missed him - his voice, his smiles, and even his lame grandpa jokes.
She thought about what she could bring as a gift for him. She had already gotten Jinyoung a copy of 1Q84, one of her favorite novels she hope he'll enjoy.
As she searched her wardrobe for clothes she could wear, a black oversized hoodie with scribbles in white marker caught her eye.
Jieun smiled.
This is it. This is my gift for him today.

"Eun-ah, I'm so excited for tomorrow! Who do you think...."
Jaebeom was finally leaving for the big city tomorrow. Having won the audition, he had secured himself a spot as a JYP trainee and was well on the way to fulfilling his dream.
The pair was on the rooftop of their apartment building, enjoying their favorite box of cheese pizza.
As a gust of wind blows, Jieun felt herself shivering.
The boy took off his hoodie, and hand it over to her with a smile.
"Here, you need it more than I do. Wouldn't want you to fall sick when I'm not here, would you?"
Jieun's heart fluttered. Jaebeom was no longer the small, shy kid from kindergarten. The boy who used to be way shorter than her was now growing up to be a fine man. She could see that a lot of girls would be giving their hearts for him, maybe even before he debuts.
Would he still remember her when he leaves?
The two sat in comfortable silence, both not wanting to face the miseries that the near future would bring.
"Hey, Jieun?"
"Yes?"
"Someday we're going to meet at the top. You know that, right?"
Deep down, she had doubts. Financially, her family was not in a good situation right now. After one of her dad's business partners bailed and stole a lot of their profits, her family business was now on the brink of bankruptcy. Sure, it wasn't a big company - if anything, no one outside their town has probably heard about their business - but it was enough for them to live a comfortable life.
Hell, even money for food was hard for her family right now. With her parents close to the retiring age, Jieun knew that she should step up to carry the burden. She knew that pursuing a career in the Korean music industry would not be beneficial for her family right now, especially when so little make it to the top.
So yes, Jieun didn't know if she was so sure of Jaebeom's words anymore. The promise they made so many years ago seemed like a distant dream.
"What if we don't, Jaebeom? Will you still remember me?"
A moment passed as the boy thought deeply.
"As long as I am breathing, I don't think I'll be able to forget you, Eun-ah. Don't worry. However long it takes, I'll be waiting for you at the top."
"Then will you give me the honor of being the first recipient of your autograph?"

"Thank you so much for this, Jieun-shi. I'll make sure to read it," Jinyoung said as he signed the girl's album.
Jieun didn't know what to expect when she arrived at the fansign venue this morning. She had woken up earlier than usual, putting a bit more effort on her appearance. She wanted to give a good first impression on him; wanted to show him how much she has grown over the years. And if he didn't recognize her? Meeting two of the biggest stars in the industry wasn't something you do everyday, and Jieun wanted to look good for it.
Jinyoung had grown up a lot since she last saw him. When Jaebeom participated in the open audition, she was grateful that he had gotten a partner like Jinyoung. They had clicked together instantly, winning the audition together, and eventually, debuting together (two times!) as well.
Although a small part of her had wished that he would remember her face, she couldn't expect much from a man who had only seen her once so many years ago as she was giving Jaebeom congratulatory flowers.
Fiddling with the strings of her gift bag containing the hoodie with the sacred first autograph, Jieun was once again grateful for Jinyoung's presence in Jaebeom's life. She would never get over the guilt of leaving Jaebeom to pursue his dreams alone, but she felt more at peace knowing that Jinyoung was there with him every step of the way.
"I'm glad you like it, Jinyoung-shi. I enjoyed listening to your songs, and I hope the novel will give you inspiration to write more beautiful ones."
The idol smiled warmly as he handed her album back to her.
A member of the staff then signaled that her time was over and Jieun felt her heart rate increase as she stood from her chair to get the signature of the second member of the duo.
With shaking hands, Jieun took out the hoodie from the gift bag - she had folded it in a way the white scribbles were visible at the top.
Okay, just a few more steps until I'm in front of him. Breathe, Jieun, breathe.
Seeing Jaebeom in person again was a dream come true for her. The boy she knew then had grown into the heartbreaker she had expected him to be. There were so many things she couldn't wait to tell him, and yet, she knew she couldn't be disappointed if he did not remember her.
Jieun sat down in the seat in front of him, put the hoodie on the table between them, and gave him her best smile.
"Hey, Beomie, do you want to see how your first autograph looked like?"
