dear malia,
when i walked into school that next day with my two best friends, i saw you walking towards your locker.
austin wasn't with you. i found that funny because austin was always with you.
you weren't smiling or looking happy in any way. i wondered if perhaps austin had broken up with you. i thought to myself, don't get your hopes up.
but everyone was talking, and it didn't take long for everyone to find out that the 'golden couple' was broken up.
in science, you talked to me.
"hi, hannah," you said.
and i said, "hi, malia."
you sat down beside me.
"i heard about the break-up."
"who hasn't?" you replied.
and i smiled, because, although it was a sort-of-depressing-makes-me-wanna-hug-you answer, it was the truth.
"perhaps a joke will lift your mood?" i said to you.
you shrugged.
"okay," i said. "knock-knock?"
"who's there?"
"dwayne."
"dwayne who?"
i chuckled a little. "dwayne the bathtub, i'm dwowning!"
you burst into laughter. it wasn't that funny.
mrs. jones hadn't arrived yet, and i have to admit i was glad. she would scold you for laughing.
after a few seconds, you said, "okay, okay, my turn. why did the cow cross the road?"
"um, i don't know, why?"
"to get to the udder side."
i giggled. that was pretty funny. i was a sucker for a bad dad joke, but it was even cuter coming from you.
"you have a cute laugh," you told me, grinning a little and chuckling after. you turned around just as mrs. jones walked in the room.
i blushed profusely at your comment, thankful that you'd turned around so that you wouldn't see my pink cheeks.
truly,
hannah
A/N shoutout to the cheese string that I got malia's joke off of
