I wake up to the sound of my doorbell ringing. I drag myself out of bed to answer the door. As expected, Wonpil is there.
"I knew you would be asleep."
"Why did you wake me up?"
"So you can get ready for the mall," Wonpil replies.
"Isn't it too early?"
"It's 10 right now, and we're meeting up at May's house at 12. I think we're on time."
I groan and rub my eyes. I move to the side so Wonpil can come in, and I sit down on the couch next to him. Suddenly, a question pops into my head.
"How did you know where and when we're going to meet?"
"Oh, she texted the group chat," he replies.
"What group chat?" I ask in shock.
"You're not in it? I can add you-"
"No, it's fine Pil."
She really left me out of the group chat. I'm really starting to hate her. I feel like she's going to disconnect me from everyone, including Wonpil. What a great start to the weekend. I feel horrible.
I push myself up from the couch and walk to my room. Wonpil joins me, and he sits patiently on my bed. I lazily pull out some clothes from my closet and drape it on my arm.
"Wait! Can I be your stylist today?" Wonpil asks.
"Um, sure?"
Wonpil gets up and grabs the clothes that are resting on my arm. He puts the clothes back on their hangers and searches through my closet. He seems to be looking for something that he can't find.
After thorough searching, he walks over to my dresser and opens the drawer.
"Don't open the last drawer Pil."
"I know. I remember," Wonpil says. "Sorry about that, by the way."
A few years ago, we were sitting on the floor in my room. Wonpil fumbled with some stuff and opened the bottom drawer which had my underwear in it. I'll never forget Wonpil's reaction. He almost broke the drawer when he tried to close it quickly.
"I'll never let you live that down."
"Shush. It was an accident, and I'm still embarrassed about it to this day."
I laugh at him as he opens the second drawer. He gasps and grabs the clothing item that he has been searching for. He pulls out an old black skirt that I got as a gift that I only wore once. He rummages some more and finds a white crop top hoodie that I completely forgot I had.
"No way Wonpil."
"Just try it on. Maybe you'll like it."
I reluctantly grab the skirt and hoodie and walk to the bathroom. When I'm done dressing up, I look at the mirror and see a completely different person. There's no way that person in the mirror is me. My reflection looks... Good. This is a weird feeling, and I'm not sure if I like it or not.
A smile starts to form on my lips, but I don't want Wonpil telling me "I told you so" all day.
I step out of the bathroom trying my best not to look confident, which isn't that hard for me to do. Wonpil analyzes my facial expressions before he speaks.
"You can't fool me, you know?"
I let out a sigh and put my guard down. He knows me way too well.
"How did you know?"
"Oh, what?! You actually like it?" Wonpil asks, completely shocked.
"Yeah, why are you so surprised?"
"I was just kidding earlier, but I'm glad you like it."
My jaw drops as Wonpil smiles innocently at me. You have got to be kidding me. Well, actually, he was.
"Go grab your stuff. I'll be in the car."
And with that, Wonpil heads outside. I shouldn't have said anything.
I grab my phone, keys, and wallet before leaving. When I enter the car, Wonpil is texting the group chat on his phone.
"What'd they say?" I ask.
"I just told them that we're heading over right now."
Wonpil types away on his screen and pauses for a second.
"Younghyun also wants to ride with us."
He puts his phone away and starts the car.
"You ready?" He asks as he nods at me. I smile and nod back.
"Les get it."After minutes of screaming lyrics out loud on the road, Wonpil parks the car. We both run to Young K's front door, still laughing at Wonpil's voice crack from earlier.
I don't know why I'm so excited to see Younghyun, but I am. I feel much better after that drive, and I'm actually looking forward to the mall despite May being there.
Wonpil rings the doorbell, and we wait there patiently for the door to open. When it does, a bright Younghyun appears with a smile on his face. I wrap my arms around him as Wonpil greets him.
When I let go of him and step back, Younghyun has a surprised expression on his face as he looks down at me.
"I convinced her to try it on," Wonpil says. He already knew Young K was going to point out my outfit. "I was shocked too."
My face suddenly feels warm and I look away. My heart races at the sudden attention that I'm getting.
"Um, let's just go," I suggest.
The three of us head to the car. I sit in the back while Younghyun controls the music up front. When a familiar tune starts to play, we all gasp and sing in unison.
The traffic didn't bother us that much because of the music that we played. When we arrive at May's driveway, I check the time. We're a few minutes early, but it seems that everyone is already here. I take a deep breath before exiting the car. As soon as I open the car door, May walks out of the house to say hi.
"Hey Pil! Hi K!" she shouts. She looks around, and we make eye contact. She waves and smiles innocently at me. Did she forget my name?
May goes to hug Wonpil.
"It's nice to see you Pil," she says. No one calls him Pil except for me, so it's weird hearing someone else call him that. I kind of feel jealous for some reason.
Wonpil accepts the hug, and she moves on to Young K.
"What's with my name?" he asks.
"It's my nickname for you," she replies with a laugh. She signals for us to follow her inside.
May's house is two stories, and it looks pretty expensive. Jae, Dowoon, and Sungjin are sitting on the couch. They avert their attention to the door when we come in.
"Wow!" Dowoon says as soon as we all enter. Jae's eyes widen and his mouth hangs slightly open. Sungjin's eyes also widen, and it looks like he's frozen.
"Guys," May interferes. "Stop."
She chuckles and they all snap out of their trance. I stand there awkwardly and turn to Wonpil.
"What happened?" I whisper.
"They like your outfit," he replies. "See? I should be your stylist more often."
I playfully punch his arm and look at the ground to hide my face. Jae really just looked at me like that... Wow. Be still my beating heart.
"We should get going," May says. The three boys get up from the couch and grab their stuff from the table.
We walk out to the driveway where three cars are parked. May and Jae enter one car, Sungjin and Dowoon the other, and the rest of us to Wonpil's car. I've always wanted to ride with Jae, but I don't want to third wheel and make myself feel horrible. I stay with my close friends because bros before hoes.
"She texted the mall we're going to," Young K tells Wonpil as we put on our seatbelts. Wonpil looks at the destination and route for a while before starting the car.
