⠀ ⠀ the sound of uneven heavy breathing filled the silent room, visible relief washing over each member of the survivors face. the thought of being alive in an apocalypse to you seemed worse enough, but today was the first time you'd encountered something the others called a tank. ⠀
⠀ ⠀
⠀ ⠀the clanging of the last metal bar going through the safe room handle made you sigh out loud, not that you intended for it to be coherent. you could feel the eyes of the others looking at you momentarily, possibly thinking the same thought that was running through your mind.i can't believe we made it.
the feeling of a warm hand touching your shoulder made your mind seem to snap out of the trance it was locked in as you averted your gaze to the person, "you alright?" coach inquired as he studied the horrified look that was masked onto your features.
deep down, you was far from alright. you were petrified before, but now you were mortified beyond words. scratch that, words couldn't even begin to describe how you were feeling in that moment, "I'm fine, just a look shook up," you stated as you forced a smile, "that's the first time I've encountered one of those" you informed hoping they'd understand the reasoning why your body was physically shaking.
you practically hear the guilt laced in ellis' voice when he spoke, "man, I'm sorry, but y'all are gonna have to get used to 'em considering we about to set off all these stage fireworks and what not" you couldn't deny that he didn't have a point because he did.
"it's fine," you lied, it was no where near fine but what could you possibly do? you couldn't just make all these special infected beings vanish from existence or else you would.
you watched as the others prepared to bunker down for the rest of the night, not seeing the point in moving to another safe room when it's nearly night fall and no one even knew when the next safe room would be.
slinging your health kid from your back and placing it down on the side, you removed all weapons from yourself and made sure the safety was on before removing your backpack from your back, "how are we on food?" you questioned as you knew you had enough to last personally but if the others were running low then you'd all have to combine your food once again, like you always do, but you all carry your own snacks.
"i think we're all low" nick concluded after looking at the faces of the others, including his own backpack being scarce of resources.
"i have a little bit extra, you know, it'll last us a few nights but maybe soon we should split up and find a store somewhere?" you inquired as you watched the others, awaiting someone, anyone, to agree with your suggestion.
they seemed to have zero problem with your idea, though to your dismay they volunteered nick to join you considering he always voted himself out of the runs. he was particularly someone you hated, but his attitude annoyed you time to time so you preferred to have minimal conversations with him.
you couldn't deny you didn't want him around, because for some reason, something about his abrupt attitude only made you slightly more curious about him. you remembered the first day you met them, you were stranded ontop of an apartment building after following the sound of a helicopter. though when you arrived, it had already closed their doors and refused to open them due to their own safety being jeopardized if they were to allow you on. that's when the sounds of footsteps and various voices shouting out for the helicopter to stop was echoed around the atmosphere.
that day changed your life, sometimes for the better but other times you just wished you remained on that rooftop and allowed yourself to fade away from the world. surviving every day was becoming tiring, it was more effort to breathe than it was to wield a weapon.
