"Persephone? Persephone, wake up dear." I squint my eyes and try to look up but I'm only met with a bright, blinding light. A woman's figure begins to appear in silhouette. She has long brown hair and a skinny frame. "Honey it's time for school." I keep squinting into the light to try and see the woman's face. The light dims, but the woman turns around. I try and chase after her, but my legs are stuck to the floor. "Bye sweetie, mommy loves you."
I sit up fast in my bed, panting hard. Mommy loves you.
"Are you okay? You started mumbling in your sleep and then you just shot up," London asks, seemingly concerned.
"Uh yeah, just a bad dream," I shrug, trying to sound nonchalant.
"Well it's 5:30 and we have to get up at 6:30. Wanna take a walk or something?" He suggests.
"Nah, I'm gonna try and sleep."
"Oh come on dork, a walk might do you some good after a bad sleep," he insists, standing up.
"Ehhhh," I mumble into the pillow. Then I feel two arms underneath me, lifting me up, then without warning I'm thrown over London's shoulder. Potato sack style.
"What the hell?! Put me down, I'm not a potato sack! THIS CAN'T BE GOOD FOR MY STITCHES!" I yell pounding my fists on his back.
"Ow! Stop hitting me, your tiny fists actually hurt." He keeps going till we're outside, and walking down the old, crumbling sidewalk. Thorneburg is a city of new money. The people who live here have either moved here or started a corporation on the other side of town. So pretty much everyone that's not the popular kid's or their parents. Like my dad.
He started a family based corporation that sells cribs, parenting books, marriage related things. Even has public sessions with his marriage counselor on YouTube, despite having the "perfect marriage." I mean I exist so clearly it's not as perfect as it sounds. If I released to the public that I was an affair kid my Dad's business would fall apart. I mean he's a sucky dad but at least I have a place to live right?
"Hey Kore, you okay? You blanked for a minute."
"Huh? Oh yeah, just still asleep I guess. You know it's not technically a walk if only one of us is walking. Wait a minute... did you just call me Kore?" I ask incredulously. He stops walking and sets me down, face turning all sorts of red shades.
"It's, uh what Persephone was called before the ancient Greeks just kinda, changed her name." He explains, looking down at his feet. "Yeah, I know. I used to be a Greek mythology buff. No big deal." He shrugs, a small smile creeping up on his lips.
"Of course I don't think it's a big deal, nerd." I smile avoiding his eyes.
"Oh you did not just."
"Maybe I did, what are you gonna do about it?" I challenge him with a grin. He sighs.
"Absolutely nothing I suppose." He smiles and he make a turn at the next corner and head back to the house. Since last time all I got was a wonderful view of London's ass and the floor, both very, very exquisite though. Wait what am I saying? I will NOT be a conquest. Not again anyway. I look around the grand hallway.
White crown molding on a white ceiling. Grey walls adorned with paintings that were no doubt more expensive than what I could earn in 10 years. Fancy satin couches, and bookshelves from the floor to the 20 foot tall ceiling. I look down the hallway and see a beautiful crystal chandelier that lit up the entire hall.
"You know it's not nice to stare, unless it's at me," London looks back and the light from the glass door catches his eyes. I take a deep breath in. That smirk and those eyes. Why did I have to help that lady getting mugged? Scratch that, that would make me an asshole. Why universe why? I step into my room- which is also gorgeous. How have I not noticed how beautiful this place was earlier? The grey walls are also adorned with lavish paintings, one of a silhouetted lady on a sunset cliff. Maybe that's why I had that dream. Subconsciousness psychology stuff. I break from my trance when I realize I have no clothes. Let me rephrase that to something London wouldn't get a kick out of. I'm still in London's sister's night clothes, which needn't I remind are borderline lingerie.
