(6) So Nurses Are Important

Queensdale high school. Probably the most socially diverse school. Of course there's the normal cliques: The jocks, the bad kids, the nerds, preps, band kids, blah blah blah. Walking into social studies it was evident who had studied and who had not. Jocks and preps obviously had nothing in their head besides sex and popularity. Nerds had studied religiously as soon as they got home, possibly skipped dinner pining over their notes. The rest were wildcards.

Quite honestly I wonder if I belong in a clique or if I'm destined to drift alone. Lol, that's some real Criminal Minds psychology shit right there huh? Whatever just take the test Percy. You're gonna fail either way, so why even try. Because I'm a good person and I want to go to college and do good for the world. The teacher passes out the test and desk by desk drops each test off. The sound of moving pencils and sliding paper makes my hair on my neck stand up. Fail. Fail. Fail. Fail. The teacher drops the test on my desk.

What is the name and date of the event that got the U.S. involved in World War II?

Seriously? This is it? I scan the rest of the test, all the questions London and I had gone over last night, just slightly reworded. I chuckle to myself and answer each question. Ten minutes later I double check my answers and turn in my test first. The nerds turn around, looking genuinely, and hilariously offended. For the rest of the period I read my book. The same book you grabbed when you almost toppled that bookcase after you met London.

I smile at my desk and open my book, the words however, just slip through my brain. I raise my hand and the teacher quietly walks to my desk.

"Can I go to the Library? I already finished my test." I request. She nods and I silently grab my things and slip out of the room. As I pat down the hall in my own sweat clothes and worn sneakers. I can see the door, when a pair of hands grabs me by the hoodie and shoves me against a locker face first. Who the hell else wants to shove me against a wall? I turn my head slightly to see who it is. Or rather, which two people it is. Allison and Alexandria. "What do you two half-brains want?" Allison grabs my head, pulls it back and slams it on the locker pretty hard. That's gonna leave a mark.

"How are you so close with London? And also, two half-brains still make a whole brain!" Alex replies, so proudly it's almost sad.

"Alex, you're not helping, but answer the question dammit!" Allison yells again, banging my head against the locker once more. Should we take them out? No, then we'd be the school psychopath.

"HELP! THEY'RE TRYING TO KILL ME!" I scream at the top of my lungs. Another head bang, I'm getting a bit dizzy now.

"Shut up loser! Now how have you and London gotten so close? Are you a hooker? Is he paying you?" Alex demands.

"Oh hell no! We haven't even had sex! Now would you stop acting like psychopaths, please!" I beg. Last sharp pain to the head. Or at least I think it is, I'm passed out cold anyway.

I wake up at the sounds of a school bell. The school bell. I look around and see the clean baby blue walls of our nurse's office. The clean press-board and black-painted counters, all mixed with the smell of cleaning chemicals and plastic. I sit up but immediately lie back down, becoming dizzy and seeing stars. The nurse comes in with a clipboard, writing things down before she spots me.

"Oh hey dear, your friend brought you in here with a pretty bad concussion. You might want to stay home from school tomorrow and get some rest. And try to stay away from sudden movements. Might make you nauseous and throw up." She orders, nonchalantly.

"Yeah yeah, uh, what time is it?" I question, still facing the ceiling from the nurse's makeshift gurney. Mostly just a pillow and a blanket.

"Well Percy Kings, that bell was the last bell of the day. You've been out for about 3 hours now." She explains. Well shit, there went my plans for the Library.
