"You reek of fox shit."

Lifen's words—so crude and vulgar—ripped through Jiahui and Xueyou's chest like a blade the instant it reached their ears. Jiahui's face had reddened to such a degree that it looked as if she were being cooked alive. Xueyou's face was the exact opposite, cold and hard, his jaw clenching tightly with embarrassment.

Who would say such a thing to a person they had never met? There should be no enmity between strangers—Young Miss Zhou was just too much.

Jiahui was at a complete loss, what could she do to remedy the dire situation? She looked between Physician Zheng, Young Miss, and the shopkeeper. Physician Zheng seemed as if he were contemplating; her young miss was indifferent to it all, while the shopkeeper's face wrinkled with evident animosity.

Fearing for her young miss' reputation, Jiahui was about to go forward and apologize on her behalf, hoping to keep any gossip from spreading and further tarnishing Lifen's image in Lu Port. Lifen, sensing Jiahui's intentions, quickly shot out her arm, pushing the servant back and admonished her accordingly.

"Know your place. You do not represent me—you are merely a servant. This Vile creature has offended me, so it is she who must come and offer an apology." Lifen said, her voice hard and resolute.

Jiahui was stunned to silence. Even though her young miss came from wealth, and the Zhou family was well respected, it did not hold a seal of nobility. What would happen if she ever encountered someone of higher rank: such as one with noble or even royal blood? Jiahui's heart began to beat wildly, thrumming with utmost dread. She silently prayed that her young miss would never meet an untimely death!

Unlike the females, Zheng Xueyou remained calm and level headed. He was not one that took pleasure in the affairs of bickering women. He could only stare at Lifen with a bewildered expression. What had the woman done to offend her?

Vile? The woman was a bit brazen, but he could not go as far as calling her vile.

He could not help but let out a small sigh. This girl was an enigma; one he felt he would never comprehend completely.

Trying to avoid delving into unnecessary issues, Xueyou could only strive towards suppressing the negative energy that crackled in the atmosphere. Clearing his throat, he decided to interject,

"Young Miss Zhou, I know that you are unwell, but please refrain from using vulgar language." He turned to the proprietor with a small smile that did not reach his eyes, "Forgive the girl. Let us conclude business; I am in a hurry to bring the miss back to her estate."

Lifen only scoffed in response. Only because his words held no sincerity did she not rebuke him for interfering. She was more curious than angry, wondering why he was not questioning her words and femininity in a self-righteous manner she was beginning to know him by.

It was a half-hearted apology; this Zheng Xueyou could not deny.

Secretly, Miss Zhou Lifen's churlish mouth had not bothered him as much as usual—perhaps because he too did not view the shopkeeper in a good light. He was not blind to the woman's hungry eyes, nor the way her lips had curled in such a feline way. Nor did he appreciate her inserting herself when he was the one who sought to teach Zhou Lifen about herbs and their medical properties.
