"Young Miss, please stay close to this servant." Jiahui urged with breathlessness, trying to keep up with Zhou Lifen's fast pace as they moved through the crowded market. She diligently tried to keep near her young miss' side, overwhelmed with fear that she would lose her again in the congested streets.
The streets overflowed with people, like heavy currents that threatened to separate them as they continued straight in their path. This only made Jiahui even more apprehensive, since Lifen's safety was her top priority. But unlike the ungraceful Jiahui, Lifen's gait never faltered and she continued in her path with ease. She was like an elegant lotus, floating through her obstacles with poise and grace.
To Jiahui--who had eyes to see--using Lifen as a guide, instead of her young miss using her to lead, was shameful. She never felt as useless as she did now.
It was true that Lifen did not need help to maneuver about--thanks to her honing her other senses--but it did not mean it was easy. Focusing on sound and vibration was too energy-consuming and rather frustrating, especially when surrounded by countless people that were creating interference from every angle. It was not helping that her servant was breathing hard near her ear, making it even harder for her to focus on the man she was secretly following,
Her lips formed a tight line, and she clenched her small hands into tight balls. "Your loud heaving is grating. You are more of a hinderance then you are helping. Go home!" She hissed.
Jiahui pouted, but she shook her head. "This servant can not! This servant must stay by your side. Please, allow this servant to stay." She pleaded, fighting the urge to grab hold of Lifen's veil in a move to keep close to her young miss.
Lifen fought the urge to strangle the girl. Her begging and pleading had taken away her attention, and now she lost the sounds of the man's footsteps up ahead.
Pinching her brow with one hand, she lifted her other arm and aimed an open palm towards Jiahui, commanding her to cease her chattering. She then began to concentrate in filtering out most of the noise around her, desperately searching for only the unique pattern of steps that belonged to Zheng Xueyou.
Although the mili (wide-brimmed hat with long body veil) her young miss wore had an obscuring, long veil, it's white silk was not dense enough to completely shroud her features, especially when standing close. Due to this, Jiahui instantly was able to notice Lifen's expression and grew worried. The way Lifen's eyes were tightly closed as she pinched the bridge of her nose made it seem as if she were in pain, as for the hand gesture, she mistakened her command and thought she did it in a desperate attempt to regain control of her body that looked like it was about to sway.
"Young miss, are you alright? Do you need water or herbal tea? Do you wish to sit and take a break?"
She recoiled her arm, concluding that her servant was just an imbecile. She then used both hands to massage her temples to ward off the pulsating pain that threatened to emerge in ripples.
