Layla POV*
Once I finished applying my lashes, I stepped back and looked at myself in the mirror. It's almost 2 and I'm finally ready. My lashes were the last thing I had to do. I called Jayda and told her to come with me since she was still out here and she agreed. She told me she'll meet me there.
"Layla! Come downstairs please!", my dad yelled
"Coming!"
I'm pretty sure they were here because I heard the doorbell. I put my makeup bag under the sink and turned off the light. I grabbed my mini backpack/purse and walked downstairs.
"Hey everyone", I said smiling walking up to the door
"Hello Layla, this is my granddaughter Kennedy...Kennedy, this is Layla"
"Hi Layla", she said
"Hi Kennedy nice to meet you"
"Well you two have fun and be safe", my dad said kissing my cheek. "Nice to meet you both"
"You too Mr.Davis", Ms.Barbara said
I watched my dad walk away then I turned back to Kennedy and Ms.Barbara.
"Are we ready to go?", I asked her
"Yes"
I can tell she was a little shy, but I understand. She's young and meeting new people could be scary.
"Well you two have fun, I'll pick her up around 8"
"Okay, that'll give us enough time to have fun", I said
Ms.Barbara nodded and smiled. "See you later", she said while walking away.
"Let me just go grab my phone and we can go"
She nodded. I ran back upstairs to grab my phone off the charger then we walked to my car. I started the car then called Jayda to see where she was.
"Hello?", she said
"Hey we're about to leave, where are you?"
"Leaving the house now"
"Okay, I'll see you there"
"I'll meet you in the front"
"Okay"
I hung up the phone then looked at Kennedy. "Hope you don't mind, I invited my bestfriend. We've been friends since middle school"
"It's fine"
I slightly smiled and started driving to the fair. I want her to feel comfortable with talking to me and opening up more.
"So how old are you?", I asked
"12"
"Oh okay, almost a teenager. How's school going?"
"Good"
"You got any boys you wanna impress for this dance?"
"Nah, not really"
I nodded and chewed on the inside of my cheek. I stayed silent for a couple more seconds before I started asking her more questions.
"Is school hard for you? How are you doing?"
"Um...no. It's not really hard, all you really have to do is study, which I do"
I nodded. "That's good. That's really good. I'm glad you have that mindset. When I was in 6th grade I was a good student too, but then 7th grade year came and everything changed"
