sunday morning

Jahking POV*

Well, it's been three days since the incident. They had Lamonte go through multiple surgeries before he slipped into a coma. They finally let me see him after his mom told the nurses I was a family friend. I haven't been wanting to leave his side. His mom and I have been rotating so that someone is always here if he wakes up. She's here in the mornings after she drops Skylar off at school, and stays until she has to pick Skylar back up, then I stay with him through the night.

I still have a cast on my arm and I'll be wearing it for another month. I haven't got any sleep because everytime I close my eyes it takes me back to the night of the shooting. I've also been having flashbacks to the night my older brother was shot by Ray Ray.

I know for a fact Ray Ray had something to do with this and I couldn't let him get away with it. He already got off for killing my older brother, and he almost took out another one. I didn't want to get back in the game, but I couldn't let this shit slide.

"Hey"

I looked over and seen Monte's mom walk in.

"Hey", I said

"I brought some Wendy's. I know for a fact you haven't ate anything"

"I'm not hungry"

"Yeah...I haven't really been having an appetite either"

She looked over at Lamonte and sighed. "He told me nothing was gonna happen to him"

"And nothing is gonna happen. He ain't leaving us. He's strong. I know that"

"I know", she said kissing his forehead.

She sighed and sat down in the chair next to me. "Can you explain to me what happened?"

I looked at her and shook my head. "We was just at the wrong place at the wrong time"

"Did this have something to do with Ray Ray?"

I looked away and sighed. I didn't want to lie to her. "I think so"

She sighed. "How did he find you guys? We're hours away from the old house. Did he follow you guys?"

I looked back at her. "He couldn't have followed us. We ain't been back to the old house since Monte moved y'all out. I don't know how he found us, but Imma handle it"

"No. Absolutely not. You are not going to handle it. We're gonna let the police handle this one"

"The police? They ain't gonna handle this. And plus, I ain't snitchin on nobody. I already let him get away with killing Khalil, I ain't letting him off the hook with this"

"King listen to me. I love you like my own, so please listen to me when I tell you this. This street shit, isn't worth it. It's a never ending cycle. You get revenge and then they're gonna wanna retaliate. Do not let your mother bury another son. She needs you here, Monte needs you here, and I need you here"

I looked down and thought about everything she said. She was right. That was the whole reason why I didn't get revenge when he killed my brother, I knew the only way for this shit to end, was by walking away.

"You right. Imma leave it alone", I said softly.

She rubbed my shoulders and said, "Good".

Layla POV*

"It seems like you're getting real close to your co-workers", Jayda said.

"I am. I see them everyday", I said chuckling
