The Caring Professor

It was curious how time seems to stop when you receive bad news about your love one, when you want nothing more for time to accelerate so you could meet him as soon as possible. For Shen Wei, professor of bioengineering of the Dragon City University, time stop in the moment he receive a call, just after his last lecture of the day from Zhu Hong, the SID secretary in which his three years lover, Zhao Yunlan worked in as the Chief of the small police department.

Ever since they became lovers, shortly after meeting in the Campus for the first time, in a case Yunlan was working undercover, he had fear that one day, a member of his team will call him and said those words that would make his world crumble into pieces and so it happen. The impact of Zhu's words make echo inside his mind and his heart almost stop right there in pure panic.

"Professor Shen, please come to the hospital. The Chief had been injured during a case and the doctors are having a look at him right now. Don't worry, his life is not in danger at the moment, because luckily his injuries are mostly superficial, but you should come as soon as possible. There are some papers that need to be done and he is asking for a discharge " It goes without saying that Shen Wei was on his way to the hospital in the instant Zhu told him Zhao was injured, hailing a taxi and wishing it could get there faster.

He looked outside the window of the car, thinking that the afternoon was resembling his inner feelings, with dark clouds hovering high in the sky, announcing it was going to rain soon and so it did just a few minutes before he was finally in front of the hospital that Zhao had been admitted. He go out of the taxi not minding the cold rain falling over him.

He ran inside the hospital, as a few more did, but his reason was slightly different from the others, because his haste didn't had anything to do with the rain, but with his desire to know about Zhao Yunlan's condition as soon as possible. Zhu had told him the number of the room Zhao had been assigned to, so he took the elevator to the third floor and haste his steps to Yunlan's room as soon as he was out of it.

Shen saw both Da Qing (Yunlan's second in command) and Zhu Hong outside Zhao's room and his heart raced faster when he heard the young man curse as soon as he saw him. He knew Da Qing well enough to recognize he was nervous, which could be translate into Zhao wasn't as fine as Zhu told him.

"Da Qing..." Shen said first approaching him, as the young man rubbed the back of his head, which was yet another indication Qing was worry.

"Professor Shen... Hum... you are here already? Ah, that was fast..." Da try to dismiss the professor concern, but failed when Shen Wei frowned.

"How is Yunlan? I came as soon as I could. Is he alright? What happen? How did he got injured? Can I..." Da Qing smiled nervously and so did Zhu, because Zhao had told them not to call Shen Wei until he was ready to go home, but she called anyways, because the professor needed to know.

"He is fine... well, most of him is anyways." Zhu whisper nervously.

"What do you mean by that? Please tell me what happen to him, how did he got injured? Please, I need to know it all..." Da Qing open his mouth to answer the professor, even when he knew Shen Wei was going to freak out when hearing that the Chief... but the door of the room open in that moment and a doctor came out of the room with a big yellow envelopment that obviously contained the result of some x-ray examination. This make Shen Wei heart beat even faster in dread, because x-ray mean he wasn't as alright as Zhu want him to believe.

"Oh... Are you Shen Wei, by any chance?" The female doctor asked and Shen prepare himself for any kind of news, both good and bad ones.

"Yes, I am." Shen answer and the doctor smiled bitterly sweet at him.
