A silver pup jumped around his mother. His bright blue eyes taking in the scenery. The silvery-blue husky leaned down to nuzzle her child; proud to see her pup’s eyes finally open. The pup squeaked out in surprise before playfully batting his mother’s nuzzle.
“Bella,” the husky’s ears perked forward at the sound of a stern, deep voice. She glanced up from where she sat and she saw a dark brown wolf pad out of the nearby forest. She smiled up at him warmly.
“Barak! You’ve returned.” She got up and pressed against his side. Barak flinched slightly and stood still stiffly. Bella pulled back, confusion clear on her face. “What’s wrong?” Barak grunted uncomfortable.
“I… Are you truly a pup-pet?” Barak pulled away from her, his ears pinning back. Bella’s face scrunched up in bewilderment.
“A what?” she asked quietly.
“Do you have a human to take care of you?” Barak forced himself to calm his voice. Bella flinched away from his sharp tone. She shrank back, suddenly nervous.
“Of course, Barak, don’t you?” the dark brown wolf gasped in horror and feverishly shook his head. Bella moved to protect the silver pup away from him.
“I can’t have Hardwin taken away, Bella! I know what you’re humans do to pups.” Bella’s eyes narrowed and she growled lightly, swiftly unsure of his trustworthiness.
“How can you know anything if you don’t have a human to take care of you?” Bella’s voice shook. Barak’s eyes narrowed.
“A pup needs to stay with its mother until it can hunt on its own.” Bella stared up at him in horror.
“Hardwin will do no such thing! He will become a proper dog, and that does not consist of hunting.” Bella growled stiffly. Barak took a step back in shock. He winced at the word ‘dog’.
“Hardwin must come with me, Bella. He must learn the ways of the wolf.” Bella shook her head and frowned furiously. Her ears flattened and she hunched over the small silver pup.
“If you want him, then you’ll have to take him from me. Now leave, before I call my human.” Barak took a step back in surprise. He opened his jaws to object, but Bella was already barking loudly.
The dark brown wolf had no choice but to slink back into the forest before Bella’s human forced him too.
Bella watched her mate go, her expression was pure misery. She quickly nudged Hardwin toward her house.

Barak slinked up to the dimly lit house. His ears perked forward remembering Bella’s exact words. ‘If you want him, you’ll have to take him from me’. Barak looked around the house, his nose sniffing around for Bella’s scent.
He managed to find it and followed her scent to a strange looking door with a flap. He glanced around quickly before crawling through. The flap made a sharp noise as he crawled out of the other side. Barak flinched at the noise but it soon disappeared and leaving him in utter silence.
Barak stared up around the walls and his fur prickled nervously. He had never been in a human’s territory before, much less its den!
The wolf managed to calm his nerves and find Bella’s scent again. He sniffed around and saw her sleeping in her nesting box. Barak’s heart skipped a beat as he stared at the beautiful silver husky.
