A white pup glanced around the dimly lit rock den. Her amber eyes glittered in the darkness. She glanced around quickly, trying to see her target. She heard some shuffling in the back corner and her neck fur bristled slightly. She smiled widely, her sharp, bright white teeth glinting.
“I got you, Dad!” she shrieked elatedly. She sprang forward, her paws hit fur and flesh and she buried her head in the familiar scent. There was a loud chuckle coming from the grey fur. She pushed her head away from his fur and looked up at her father’s amber eyes.
“Great job, Tora! You caught me.” He nuzzled her gently across the shoulder but she battered him away.
“Dad, stop, you’re embarrassing me.” She blushed lightly as a golden wolf jumped down into the den. He looked around and spotted the white pup and his silver eyes perked up.
“Tora!” his light high-pitched voice was yet to change; he was one a 1 and a half years old. His parents told him it was unusually for a pup his age to not have hit his growth spurt, along with puberty.
Tora giggled softly as she rolled down her father’s back to meet up with the other pup. She was only a half a year old, but they were still great friends.
“Hey, Karan!” Tora sprang over to him and wiggled her butt in the air as a signal of play. Karan got down, and wiggled his butt in response. His eyes glinted.
“Rwar!” the golden wolf jumped up and landed next to Tora. She squealed in surprise and scrambled away from him. Karan’s eyes lit up. “Are you going to my citizenship, Tora?” the white pup looked over at her father in the corner and he gave a short nod. Tora laughed.
“Of course I am! What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t?” Karan thought about it for a moment before chuckling.
“True enough.” He bounded toward her quickly and she scrambled to get out of the way. He nipped at her tail as she tripped on her own paws and tumbled onto her side. She groaned and stared at her dusty fur.
“I’m never going to become a citizen.” Karan glanced up at her sharply and leaned over her.
“Why do you say that? It’s only a year away.” Tora frowned and flailed her legs around dramatically.
“I know, that’s why! I won’t be able to survive a year.” Her eyes widened and she rolled onto her paws and stared up at him. “What if you go off and be a guard, like you always wanted to be? I wouldn’t be able to see you anymore!” Karan’s ears pinned back and his tail swished.
“I’m sure everything would work out though.” She turned her head away, not convinced. Karan frowned and pushed his nose against her cheek fur. Tora could feel the rising heat from her cheeks and smiled slightly.
“Yeah, maybe so. Just promise not to leave me, okay?” She stared up at him expectantly. Karan blinked in surprise and his ears twitched.
