Hawk's Shadow (A year later)
Sitting in the kitchen I watched the news channel's broadcast while enjoying my cup of Earl Grey. My phone lay silently across the cup plate, like enjoying it's own slumber.
"Good morning." I turned and Christian was standing in the doorway, wearing his striped pajamas. "Is that tea?"
"Yes, with some honey in it."
"Never mind, I'll have a cup of coffee." He said. "So, no new missions boss?"
"You want one?" I asked him back. "You have to ask my father, he's the boss."
"Ah well, at least studying the archives are time consuming. Have you got Adrian's message?"
"I haven't checked my mail."
"There is something I want to ask though."
"Which is?"
"Who is Agent Lee? Why didn't see him around?" My heart seized.
"He's my partner, he... left the team."
"Why, exactly?"
"Before all this he and Bruce fought for me before. Agent Lee... was my ex."
"Oof... boyfriends' quarrel. It doesn't end well does it?"
"It didn't." My voice trailed far. "He left the team and went to work with Director Fury. But then I heard news that he went to work in the NYPD as a homicide or major crimes detective."
"And why did you broke up exactly?"
"We were young, we have personalities that doesn't match. The matchmaker also said that we weren't destined for marriage either."
"Wow. I didn't know."
"It wasn't in your need-to-know log book anyway." I said. "It's fine."
"Ah well, where to now?"
"Let's just enjoy our breakfast." I said.
"... Police are still investigating the scene of what is presumed a gang war between the New York Skulls and The Gotham Homies." Hearing this I spits out my cup of tea and coughed in respond.
"What the Hell?!"
"Hey, no cursing." Chris said. Glaring at him I turned up the volume to listen the broadcast.
"Gotham PD is now requesting all citizens to stay indoors as they are completely helpless against the weapons the gang used in that war. Now we have Gotham City correspondent Howard Brown reporting from the crime scene. What is the situation there Howard?" The newsroom then switched to a street in Gotham City, with a tall African-American reporter facing the camera while holding a microphone then he didn't respond for a few seconds.
"Yes, people, now we're looking at the crime scene where the gang fight has taken place. A warning for those who are faint of heart as the image is disturbing for these viewers." He then moved forward to the crime scene now sealed off by the police via police tapes. The ending is brutal as none of them survived and the bodies are now covered by white cloths. "As you can see, no one has managed to survive this war and they all died due to gunfire. We will follow the reports closely and will notify when there is any breakthrough, this is Howard Brown reporting live from Gotham. Back to you Allen."
"Thank you Howard, as you can see the murders are really gruesome. We will continue on with any developments." The news broadcast then switched to local affairs while I and Chris shared tense gazes.
"Blin, vot i moy zavtrak." Katrina was standing in the doorway, still dressed in her sleep wear which is an over-sized shirt and white shorts.
"I have no mood to continue this cup of tea anymore." I replied. "That news just spoiled my breakfast."
"Yeah right, if the GCPD can't handle this case about indestructible weapons I believe that something's at play here."
"You don't have to guess. It must the metal Isa has told us before."
"Vibranium?... Wait, that does make sense."
"I believe that vibranium has already found it's way to the open market." I said with a sigh.
"But now how are we doing to do with this?" Katrina asked me. "Looking at you boss."
"Regroup with my father first to discuss this then we'll figure out our next plan." I said after a long pause.
