Chapter twenty-two: When will I see you again?

"Now to ask everyone's most burning questions!"

The human finally stopped asking Nightmare and Cross the oreo questions. No-one really cared unless you fan personed over Nightmare or something. Slap them.
Nightmare honestly didn't look like he cared and Cross sounded nervous. Possibly for multiple reasons.

Charles turned to Dream -who had zoned out.
It took Dream a couple of seconds to get back to reality, he looked at Charles.

"Your turn." Charles said, unusually close to Dream's face. Ya'know there's a such thing as 'personal space' right? "Please get away from my face." Dream told Charles quietly, the human moved a good foot away.

"Now to start with the questions, where have you been?" Charles began, "Um. Somewhere." Dream answered.
"And somewhere is where?"

"None of your business." Dream told Charles anger with a mix fear for the chance of accidently slipping on his words like when he talks to Killer sometimes.
"Fisty. Did you run away or did someone take you away?" Charles raised an eyebrow hopeing for a actual answer. Dream looked over at Nightmare for a moment, Nightmare just looked at Cross, Dream looked at his feet.
"I ran away."

Sudden murmers rang out across the crowd of monsters and humans.
A large smile creeped across Charles' face, 'This will be good.', Charles thought after all this was good for his job.
"And why did you do that?"

Dream looked back up at the human, "Because I. . . . . I was being selfish, only thinking of myself not thinking about how it would effect everyone else." Dream talked slowly and the voices died down.
"Why did you come back?" Charles' smile became larger somehow. "I just told you!" Dream snapped, idiots I'm I right?

"Oh, we all know that that's not the only reason," Charles cooed. Dream's pupils went smaller, was the human just guessing or did they know that it was not the only reason. "Were you not talking about a friend. . . . Or two?" Charles tilted his head slightly to the right and Dream pulled at his fingers.

'He was listening? It's rood to listen on someone else's conversation Charles!' Dream mentally slapped himself.
"U-um. Yeah I had. . One friend. Only one." Dream stumbled. 'That makes me sound so much more suspicious! "Only one" somebody kill me already!'

"And there name is?" Charles' voice edged with curiosity. "None of your business!" Dream tried to get his voice to not sound so hesitant. Charles' large unhumanly smale disappeared as he already knew the actual answer. "So what did your friend, 'None of your business' think of you coming back?"
"Well I didn't tell hi-them." Dream told him, Charles closed his eye's nodding. He opened his eye's again, "What do you think their reaction was? You not saying goodbye to that 'one friend'."

"I don't think it would hurt them that much. . . . Possibly. I think they would be happier." Charles just nodded.
"What would you say if you did say goodbye. A speech please. Act like your talking to them." Charles' smile returned sending shivers down Dream's spine not just because of his creepy unhumanly smile.

"Okay," Dream wanted to throw up just to go inside and never leave his room again.
"I-I'm sorry but I need to leave, you where right about me being selfish. I didn't care about anything or about it would affect you and everyone else. In less then a month I've meet so many who have suffered because of my choice, so many family members who lost someone close, a few not even knowing that monster or human. So many things that I could have done to help but I made everything worse.
I only ask for forgiveness for leaving and wanting to smack you sometimes," Some humans and monsters laughed at the last sentence,

"You helped me no matter what I did or said, but you where kind of forced to help me but it still counts. And you helped me find a little bit of happiness that I haven't felt in a very long time." Nightmare snapped his attention over to Dream for a brief moment. Dream nodded meaning that he was finished speaking.

"How touching, I hope your friend heard that. Anyways I can tell that no-one wants to hear anymore after that so I guess we're all finished." Charles said walking back inside.

----Later----

Dream flopped down on his bed dust flying everywhere.
He was done. He was just done with his day, after that stupid thing with Charles and walking around for hours to get used to the castle he was just done. He hoped that not everyday would be like this.

Hopefully their would be no such thing as a resistance towards Nightmare and everything will go back to the way it was before. Before Dream ran away from his responsibilities.

At least he 'enjoyed' his freedom well it lasted.

A bark sounded at the other side of the door.

Dream shot up having a soul attack. He jumped off his bed running over to the door opening it. "Toby!" Relief flooded over Dream as he picked up the fox holding him tightly.
Dream loosed his grip, "Where's Killer? You couldn't have just left him without a purpose. Your his favorite thing in the whole world!" Dream held Toby out.

Toby didn't do anything. Dream put the fox down. "Can you show me where he is?" Dream asked, Toby sat down as he looked up at his master(?).

"Is he dead?"

Toby barked.
