I looked around the small family room before dropping my backpack down on the floor and flopping onto the couch.
"This blows." I muttered.
"I know. This isn't I wanted for you either. Just stay put until I get home from work." Dad said, before leaving the apartment and going next door.
His dad worked for a storage company, running the office during the day, and living in the apartment on site after hours. His dad was a nice guy, but he could do a lot better than this. Jake looked around the place. Imagining how he could fix it up. He wasn't supposed to be here. Why did he get kicked out? Well at first his mom thought he was blowing all his money, even though he was still paying all his bills in time and working a job. When his mom finally got records from his bank account she suspected him of theft instead. That's why he was staying at his dad's, so someone could keep an eye on him.
But what was the truth?
Jake had powers. That was the truth.
There were things about Jake that nobody understood. How did he always get perfect grades when he never knew the answers in class? Why was he able to be such a goofball and literally get perfect scores all the time? How was he able to afford all these things with the job he had?
Jake had powers. Mostly manifestation powers, but he had other powers too.
As Jake was laying there on the couch he started to execute his plan. With a snap he had completely renovated the apartment to his liking. Brand new furniture, appliances, cabinets and countertops. Everything his dad had ever wanted, perfectly and neatly organized. He even erased his step mom from the picture, severing their ties and sending every penny she ever earned or spent into his bank account. All of his credit cards were paid off. His car was paid off, detailed and given brand new fancy floormats. He had all kinds of fancy cookware stored in the kitchen and the apartment was rigged to work with Alexa voice commands. Even his new smart fridge was compatible. I even made the apartment different structurally. Added another floor. 4 bedrooms upstairs, two fancy bathrooms, an office downstairs.
Once everything was perfect, everything the way it should be, I vanished.
Well, I didn't vanish. I teleported.
I was standing right outside 2010 Paddock lane. My childhood home. There was a family living there. A cute family. Mom, dad, two kids. I snapped my fingers and they were gone, all their money falling to me. The house was empty then, so I stepped inside.
Snap. Snap. Snap.
Kitchen remodeled, bathroom remodeled. New carpet, hardwood, tile and paint. New appliances, light fixtures, furniture and doors. Everything was perfect. In the master bedroom I set up my space; my bed, dresser, mirror, a few bookshelves, and had all my clothes organized in the closet. I set up my office, which had a couch dead center, facing a huge entertainment center dedicated to video games. There was a desk off to one side with a fancy gaming pc and bookshelves with books everywhere else. Then there was the guest bedroom that I tried to make look presentable. A nice queen sized bed in the middle with a desk and regular computer. There was also a small dresser and mirror.
The house was mine and mine alone. I went into the living room and flopped down on the brand new couch.
And that's when it hit me.
Literally a huge metal plate felt like it hit me in the back.
My eyes sprang open and I found myself back at my dad's on his old crusty couch, and I wanted to scream. It was all a lie. None of it was real. I was dreaming!
My dad came back into the apartment. "Oh good. You literally stayed put. Now, let's talk about how long you're planning on staying on that couch, shall we?"
