Chapter 9

Thursday, July 20th.
Maya was in the car with her mom on their way to Greenwich.
They were silent until Katy decided to tell the bad news.

"Maya I got a job offer in New Jersey," Katy said.
"Where exactly?" Maya asked.
"Riverdale," Katy said.
"That's great news Mom. Really good. When do you start?" Maya asked.
"If I except withing three weeks. If I can arrange a apartment for us and a school for you," Katy said.
"Let's do it. I've had it and boy problems are rising for me. I need a new start," Maya said.
"I'll tell them then. Where am I dropping you off?" Katy asked.
"At home please. Or wait. At Topanga's Café. I have to talk to a few people," Maya said.

They drove to the Café and Maya went in.
No one was there yet and Maya took out her phone.

Riley is usually here.
Maya ordered a smoothie for her and then Topanga came in.

"Hey Maya. Where have you been?" Topanga asked.
"Morning Mrs Matthews. I was at my aunt in Manhattan," Maya said.
"Riley and Josh are waiting for you at the apartment. Very mad."
"Yeah I left without telling them. My aunt was critic. Cancer. But she is a lot better now. I'll go there in a sec," Maya said.

She got her smoothie and sat down.
She drank it on her own time and when it was near eleven she stood up.
Time to face the music, she suppose.
She then went to the Matthews and Cory went out.

" Maya, hey. Topanga told me about your aunt. How is she?"
"A lot better thank you," Maya said.
"That's good. I have to go but my brother and Riley are there," Cory said and Maya went in.

"Josh? Riley?" Maya said and then Auggie came out.
"Hey where is your uncle?" Maya asked.
"Uncle Josh!" Auggie shouted.

"What are you... Riley! She's here! Hi," Josh said.
"Hey," Maya said smiling.

"Where were you and what were you doing in Manhattan?" Riley asked cross.
"My aunt was in the hospital and I had to go urgent. We'll talk about that later. I have some other news," Maya said and her phone rang.

"Hi Mom. Yes I am. That's good. No it's fine. Okay see you."

"What was that?" Josh asked.
"My mom accepted a job offer somewhere else," Maya said.
"Where?" Riley asked.
"Not sure. She just accepted it and now we are looking for a new apartment and a school for me," Maya said.
"When do you have to go?" Riley asked with tears in her eyes.
"Three weeks."
"Excuse me," Riley said and stormed out of the apartment.

"Sit down," Josh said.
"How was the visit at your dad's?" Josh asked.
"Tough if you have to know. It was very harder than J thought it would be. Just seeing him made me feel like I could do nothing worse. But I'm glad I went," Maya said.
"As what is the new job?" Josh asked.
"Don't know yet. I'll know by tonight. She hsd to get home and organise everything. I really hope I can get Riley calm. I can't leave knowing she is like this," Maya said.
"She'll be fine," Josh said.
