A few hours of shopping, screaming at customers, then having a food fight with Bobby, Carter successfully made beef stew. She placed the cover on the pot and turned the stove off so it would stay pretty warm, since the boys were expected to pull in anytime now.
Carter jumped and screamed when someone placed their hand on her shoulder. She quickly grabbed the hand and pushed with all her might, causing whoever was touching her to lose their balance and fall to the floor, with her on top.
"Carter! Stop! It's me, Bobby!" Bobby screamed, attempting to dodge all of her punches. Carter stopped instantly, opening her eyes. She stared down into his wide eyed ones, speechless.
"I-Bobby, I didn't mean to. I thought..." She trailed off, quickly jumping off of him, and holding her hand out for him to grab. She was afraid to look at him, afraid her emotions will show, and he'll find out about her.
"Carter, hun, are you okay?" He asked, staring at her with a concerned face. She quickly nodded her head, avoiding all eye contact whatsoever. He went to reach for her, but remembering what just happened when he touched her shoulder, placed his hand at his side.
Carter let out a sigh of relief when she heard the familiar rumble of the Impala pull into the driveway. She placed a fake smile on her face, walking to the fridge and pulling out a pie and some beers. As she was setting up everyones plate, Bobby silently watched her from the doorway. This was the first time she has ever reacted this way to physical touch.
He noticed that Carter hasn't been the same since she had a run in with a few demons a few months back; came back as a new person almost. She kept more to herself, always covered herself when she noticed people looking at her, which she never did, and was really jumpy.
"You might want to go help the boys with their things. You know how moody they get around eachother after a hunt." He heard Carter say in a overly cheerful tone. He could easily tell that she was faking her happiness. He simply shrugged his shoulders, confused and concerned about her attitude.
Carter closed her eyes when she noticed Bobby walked out of the room, sighing softly. She knew the day was coming, she didn't expect it to come so soon though. She tried her best to hide everything, but with her luck, it wasn't working out so well.
"Son of a bitch, Carter," She muttered to herself, setting the four plates full of food onto the table for the men, "When will you get your act together and be the tough girl you were raised to be?" She blinked her eyes to get rid of any unwanted tears that formed. As soon as she set the last plate onto the table she heard the boys walk into the house.
"Ya know where to set your stuff. Hurry up and get your asses unpacked so we can eat some stew Carter whipped up." She smiled softly at Bobby's words. Since she has been with Bobby since her parents death, she knows the difference between his sarcasm and his compliments. He was always a fan of her cooking.
Bobby walked back into the kitchen and smiled at Carter, seating himself in his usual seat.
"So what was-" He was abruptly interrupted by Carter slamming her first onto the counter.
"Dammit Bobby, I don't want to talk about it, nor will I ever. Please, just forget about it." She began to yell, slowly downing her voice into a whisper. Bobby continued to stare intently at her back. "Please, enjoy the food." She turned around with a giant smile on her face, sitting directly across from Bobby, leaving the side seats for the boys.
Sam was the first to walk into the kitchen, obnoxiously sniffing the air.
"Man, home cooked meals never smelled so good." He grinned, quickly giving Carter a shoulder hug, then sitting down; beginning to stuff his face.
"Boy, if I didn't know any better, I'd believe you were Dean. Let yourself breath ya idgit." Bobby chuckled, slowly sipping at his stew. Dean then decided it was a perfect time to run into the room, causing Sam to jump and spill some stew on the table.
"Food!" Dean smiled widely, ignoring the glare Sam was sending him. Dean quickly kissed the top of Carters head, something he did since they first met, and sat down in his spot.
Carter and the boys sat at the table, laughing and telling stories about their recent hunts while they enjoyed their stew. Carter was thankful that Bobby didn't bring up the incident that happened earlier.
"So, where's Cas? I haven't heard from him in a long time." Carter asked, shoving her last bit of stew into her mouth.
Dean wiped his mouth with a napkin before shrugging his shoulders.
"He comes and goes whenever he pleases, usually pops up when you least expect him to, which he needs to learn is not the best thing, expecially when I'm driving." Dean mumbles, pushing out his chair and taking his dishes to the sink.
Carter nodded her head and turned towards Sam, poking his cheek.
"I'm gonna lay down a rule for you Mr. Giant," She began, watching him nod, "Just because your tall does not give you the right to make fun of my height, capiche?"
"Capiche." Sam laughed, shaking his head.
[Sorry this chapter seems rushed and short. But the next few chapters you're going to learn more about Carter and her secret. I always want to state that this story has nothing to do with the supernatural story line. Some of the few people who died, are going to be alive in this story. So please don't complain that i'm not following the plot. Hopefully I can get the next chapter in by next week, with school and trying to find a job takes a lot of my time. I hope you enjoy this chapter anyways- Sterph]
