"Quick, finish packing!" My mom shouts up the stairs to my room. I quickly toss a few outfits into my already stuffed suitcase. Not like I am excited or anything.

"The bus is here!" I shut my suitcase and sprint outside. As I board the bus, I wave goodbye to my family, to everything I have ever known. It could be worse, I guess. I could have been left here to die. At least I would get to be with my family. Now I have to a different planet with strangers.

After a long two hour drive, the bus pulled up to Nasa's base. They gave us a huge, long speech about 'what we were doing is the right thing'. Like we had any choice. After that, they herded us like sheep onto the spaceship.

It is built as a sort of housing area for the trip up, and for when we need a place to live when we first get there. Nasa had already set up Mars with oxygen, so 'we had nothing to worry about'. Yeah, right. We are supposed to make our own homes,  build up new families, and start a whole new civilization.

They say this is to take years to complete. If we could complete it fast enough, they may send some more people up. Might. It's probably just a lie to get us to work harder, faster.

     The count down begins.
