"WE'RE BIG kids now." Lilly's eyes were narrowed, determinedly staring at the classroom ahead of her. Matthew, who was undeniably not as confident about entering the juniors, cowered by her side, trembling at the Year 3 door as if it were to pounce at him when he blinked.

"I don't want to be a big kid." He whimpered, and Lilly looked down at him with a sympathetic smile, clutching the straps of her backpack.

"You'll be ok," gently, she placed a hand on his shoulder and urged him forward. "You have me."

Matthew, still feeling the nerves rattle his fingers, looked up at the much taller girl beside him, but upon seeing Lilly's smile, immediately felt as if he was being engulfed in the serenity she seemed to radiate.

"Ok!" He immediately perked up, straightening every muscle in his body as if to move all unwanted thoughts, they were flushed out with a determined exhale as his small hand clamped on to Lilly's, and he propelled them both forward through a courtyard full of change.
