Book: Several Rise, One Dies

As a vampire you knew a few things that you could never forget. The first was that your loyalty must lie with the 'Pure Bloods' no matter your coven. Second thing was that your coven leader was the final law and if he wanted to betray the pure bloods you followed or died. The last thing was that the vampire called Oliver wasn't friend nor foe, but an enigma. No one knew where he came from or who he really was. The 'Pure Bloods' respected him for his unnatural knowledge of things and the rest of the vampires feared him for the raw power that seemed to flow from him. A rumor among those brave few was that Oliver was from the time of 'Predawning' and was either one of the original vampires like the pure or the first himself.

To speak of such a belief was considered heresy, which is why most covens did what they could to finish business with Oliver as quickly as possible. The only coven who did not fear the hidden threat he posed was that of coven Travien which is why Oliver spent most of his time there. The coven leader, Prince Thanto, had met Oliver one night while he was out one night browsing his meal options for the night. Staring at him from an alleyway was this tall pair of silver eyes. He'd never seen a human with silver eyes and was intrigued to see this shadowy stalker. Upon entering the alleyway Thanto was surprised to see a man dressed in a style of clothing that had been dead for almost 400 years. His blonde almost silver hair was covered in filth and had lost its shine. The man was taller than Thanto and even in his present condition seemed to have an aura about him that demanded respect form Thanto.

He reached a hand out to Thanto and cast a friendly smile his way, "It has been so long since any of my children have actually seen me. Tell me child, what generation are you?"

Thanto looked closely at the man and accepted his, but was quickly pulled into an embrace by the silver eyed stranger. He smelled Thanto's hand and dragged a long fang across the top of his hand. Thanto attempted to pull away before the vampire could taste his blood, but the man seemed to paralyze him. As blood flowed from his hand the man seemed to become very stiff. He absorbed the memories of Thanto and then dropped him to the ground as if he was trash. He stepped over Thanto and looked out at the humans walking passed, "Prince Thanto, 1373 years old. Declared coven leader of Travien after Prince Nevendar was murdered by a 'dead-blood' vampire. Hmm, vampires with no memory, but great power. So, Prince Thanto, tell me where do you loyalties lie? With your pure blood leaders or with the truth of it all?"

Thanto stood up slowly and licked the dried blood off of his hand, "I stand with the vampire who does not betray his brother. I cannot say whether or not what someone says is truth without ability to disprove them first. So, tell me, what vampire is strong enough to over power a second generation vampire?"

He slowly turned to Thanto and grinned, "Why the only one who could over power any generation, but the very beginning of it all. I am the reason you exist Thanto. I am the reason the pure blood exist and I am here to put an end to their injustices. I create the first three on accident and watched as they destroyed all that I cultivated. They destroyed my dreams in the beginning and now I am here to put them to rest."

Thanto shook his head in disbelief, "There is no way...  the council of Pure have reigned for thousands of year. Surely, if there was another greater than them they would of appeared long before no-"

Before he could finish the man placed his hand upon Thanto's head and a wash of memories older than man himself flooded into Thanto mind. He screamed in agony as every second of this man's life was displayed before him. Truly, a vampire who was not a vampire, but a different thing entirely. Created by an energy that sought only to devour life itself. He saw the first humans worship him as a god and among them he saw the council of pure. Leaders to these people. In his hunger this creature had turned them into vampires. Taught them to fight their thirsts and to not kill. As the creature disappeared into the world to explore more he watched the world change and evolve. Upon his return to the people he had sheltered he returned only to a massacre where his pupils had destroyed everything in an attempt to create their own subjects.

Aimlessly he wandered searching for the monsters he had created. Though a devouring energy drove him, he wished not to devour, but to protect life. The first vampires seemed to be very different, as he found traces of their destruction all throughout time. Killing whole tribes to either fill their desires or create more. Thanto even saw the home where he once lived and watch this man search through it for signs of something useful. He snapped out of the wash of memories and back into the present. The man stood before him now in modern cloths and had somehow washed up in that time. As Thanto looked about they were now in his private chamber at the house of the coven Travien. He stood quickly and was forced back down by the man, "They do not know you are back yet."

Thanto shook his head, "How did.. how is this possible?"

The man walked around the room inspecting everything Thanto possessed, "I was born from a crystal of pure energy and it was there I first met the Earth. Long before humans existed and before blood had every been shed on this world. It was my hope upon seeing the first humans to create a home for myself. In my travels to discover more humans I was betrayed by my own creations. I am sure they know I exist to this day, but I do not think it is probable that they know I am here right now. It was been so long since my children left my side. Their memories are weak because they are weak. A failed attempt to create my child from some other creation. Now i have come back. Back to my children to correct the mistake that I made before it grows any stronger."

The man moved closer to Thanto and brushed a finger across his cheek, "I have chosen the name Oliver after the orphan story. You shall introduce me as a long forgotten friend from another land. Together we shall rid my children of their sickly leaders and bring your kind to a higher state of evolution."

Thanto inhaled sharply, "How do you plan to accomplish this?"

"With my true son, created as I was created. To be raised among vampires created as you were created. A medium to the pure that will allow me to extract my punishment to my old children..."

It was that day that the Travien coven began to raise through the ranks of vampire covens and be known as one of prestige and dignity. Even the council of Pure Bloods honoured them with many young vampires to be raised in their coven of order and respect. Oliver become closer to the Pure and as he had suspected was not even remembered by them. Years passed until the dead came when Oliver released his child onto the streets. When the boy awoke he knew nothing of who he was or who he was. Oliver watched from behind the lines as his master plan slowly unfolded before him. However, the rest of this story isn't something you can just follow Oliver to learn.
