Silence. Dead silence is what happened after I kicked him out of my room. I sat on the chair by the mirror and just stood in silence for like 30 minutes. Nothing was on my mind beside the fact that was probably the first time since Harry and I started the bet I felt a superb peace. My heart wasn't racing, I wasn't paranoid, I was perfectly numb and still.
The phone ringing snapped me out of it, even more when I heard my brother's voice on the other end.
"Are you still in town?" Josh didn't even bothered to greet me
"Yes"
"Great, father is back and wants us to have dinner tonight" His voice is as robotic as usual
"Okay"
"Will you really come?" I could hear uncertainty in his voice
"Yes, I'll go" At this point I can't even beliefe myself
"Okay..." he says like he'll pay to see me there "7pm, don't be late"
"Okay" I hang up
Something Harry told me a few days ago just kept ringing in my head. I should just do whatever they want me to do and call it done. I'm officially worn out.
The rebel and punk act is really tiring. I don't have the strength in me anymore. It's not like I was faking it, but I got to a point where being myself is too much work. Maybe shutting down and playing by their rules will make them stop paying attention to me and just let me be.
I get up, put some light make up and call Lou asking her help with my hair. Within 15 minutes I have blue jeans and a white turtle neck shirt on, ready to leave.
...
"Wow, who are you?" Lou asked me when I walked in the hair shop
"I'm still Zoe, don't worry" I smile and sit down
"I don't think I've ever seen you wearing something this basic" she puts the black gown on me
"Yeah" I smile "I think it's time to change my look, you know" I had my lip ring removed but kept some of my ear pieces "I'm thinking about cutting my hair a little bit" I say gesturing my desired length "Maybe a long bob?"
"You'd look stunning" she said smiling "I'm digging this" she started to prep her tools "What triggered all this? Harry?"
"I don't know" I speak the truth "I'm just tired of doing what I'm doing because it's taking me nowhere"
"I'm happy for you" she smiles truthfully "So, how are things with Harry?"
"They aren't" I look down "I broke up with him a few hours ago"
"Why?" Lou seems shocked "Did he do anything?"
Yes, he broke the little trust I had in him.
"No" I look at her trying to lie. In all honesty, Kendall had nothing to do with my decision. "I don't think Harry and I are good for each other"
"You seemed so sure the other day" she says as she works my hair
"Tides change" I smile looking down "The truth is that I'm scared we cross the line where I can't go back" I play with my rings "Falling for him is as simple as writing my name, but unfortunately I'm running out of ink"
...
"Hey, have you seen Harry?" Liam asked when I walked down the hotel's hallway and bumped into him
"No, sorry" I say trying to find my room's card in my bag "I haven't seen him since this morning"
"Oh, your hair" he said smiling " You look great by the way! Are you two going on a date tonight?"
