CHAPTER 3: A NEW HOPE…

DAY: SUNDAY

TIME: - 07:00 AM

Ereath woke up earlier than before even though it was a weekend. He placed a letter on his table, took some materials that he had made himself, and kept them in the pocket of his overcoat. He moved out of his house and caught a bus to AREA 10 which was an hours away from his place.

After one hour…..

After he had reached AREA 10, he walked on and on to some place without stopping even once. Finally, he saw something and stopped. It was a devastated place, barren land, remnants of some houses and, had a board saying, “IT IS A RESTRICTED AREA. PLEASE DO NOT GO INSIDE.” He ignored it and moved inside, crossing the wall. While he was trying to examine something, he felt a strong presence of another person. He turned back and, an adult was standing right behind him starring at him. He, somehow, didn’t look like a promising man and not a cop either so, Ereath decided not to talk with him.

Stranger: Hello kid!! Who’re you?

Ereath: I could ask the same to you. (Trying to act confident)

Stranger: (laughing) Quite a funny one, aren’t you? What’re you doing here anyway?

Ereath: I am not obliged to answer to a stranger.

Stranger: (Again laughing) you sure are handful, kid. This place was destroyed by a heavy earthquake about a month ago. I’m surprised that a kid is interested in a place like this.

Suddenly, he took out a gun like weapon called cyberton and pointed it at Ereath… A small screen on the gun showed, “Activating cyberton, MODE 1….. Scanning IQ level ….. IQ level scanned….IQ – over 200.” After seeing Ereath’s IQ, the expression on the man’s face changed with excitement. He had rarely seen anyone with an IQ equal to Ereath’s. “I could use this boy to accomplish my dreams or maybe, he is here for the same purpose as me. This could be interesting, with him under my control, there will be nothing that I cannot accomplish!!!” thought the man and started laughing with excitement.

Ereath: (Surprised) That’s…. cy…ber…ton? There is no mistaking it, that’s cyberton.

Stranger: Yes it is a cyberton. Cool, isn’t it? Now, listen kid, I want to talk with you. You have to come with me.

Ereath: I cannot trust you. You pointed the cyberton at me without my knowledge. I guess I will just have to leave this place now. (Stands and starts walking)

The man couldn’t just let this opportunity go and took an immediate step….

Stranger: Kid, if you don’t come I will have to force you.

The man pressed a button on the cryberton and it displayed, “Activation cyberton, MODE 2…. Power mode…”

Ereath: (Giving a grave look) Wh..? What? MODE 2? Are you serious? Do you intend to kill me?

Stranger: Sorry son but, I will have to, if you don’t come.

Ereath kneeled down, pretending to surrender. Within a moment, Ereath took out a device from his overcoat then, he kept it on the ground and pressed its button. After that, more than a hundred holograms picturing the same image as Ereath had appeared in front of the man. The man got confused among the images and could not find the real Ereath. Suddenly, he noticed Ereath flying away from him. He escaped from the man’s sight in no time.
