"Oh come on now, you've been packing for hours Tilly. It's school, not a vacation"Tilly heaved one of her many suitcases onto the messy bed.
"I don't care if its school. It could be prison for all I care- If I have to go then I want to be prepared."
"You're probably not even going to wear or use half of the stuff you're bringing anyway."
Diana flicked a piece of lint from under her nail before throwing herself onto the messy bed.
"Diana buzz off! You're just distracting me"
Diana laughed in her twinkling way.
"If I don't annoy you who will? Entertaining me is the least you could do. After all, you follow me EVERYWHERE"
"More like you follow me. Please. If given the choice, I'd stay here and you know that. It's not like I have much say around here anyway"
"And I do?" Di grabbed one of Tilly's endless supply of necklaces and rolled her eyes, examining it.
"I have as much say around here as Luther- actually no. Luther has more say than I ever will."
As if on call Luther daintily strolled in, stopping right at the foot of the bed as if to announce his presence, then proceeded to inspect the heaps of Tilly's belongings scattered across the floor.
"YOU don't have to go. You could go to college if you wanted to. But I guess we couldn't both be ambitious." Tilly gave a pursed sarcastic smile.
"Hey! You don't have to be sour about it" an offended Diana sat up.
"Whatever. Mom seems to live off the fact that were conjoined twins"
"Never one without the other" Macy, who happened to hear the last bit of this exchange popped in the room.
"It's rude to eavesdrop" Diana smiled at their mother, brushing some of Tilly's clothes off the bed to make space for her.
"I wasn't eavesdropping" Macy said as she sat. "I was simply passing by and overheard a piece of the conversation."
She took note of her younger daughters face.
"Makes no sense sulking at this point sweetie. You know as well as I do that it's for strictly practical reasons why you're going."
"Yeah, I could understand that if I was twelve. Now- not so much"
Macy sighed.
"Okay, what do you suggest? Where do you suppose you'd go to stay while I'm away?"
Macy Pratt was an actively involved member of the United Nations and was leaving for her third time to volunteer for 13 months in Iran at a refugee camp. She had come to the conclusion that a boarding school would be best for the girls in her absence.
Macy grew up in Edinburgh, and had gone to a boarding school there when she was younger. However, she met Nathan and moved across the world with him to the city of angels. Diana was born, then Matilda, and finally came the end of her marriage. Nathan was too caught up in the fast life, Macy didn't recognize him anymore. After the death of her parents, Macy got their house, and the three occasionally made trips back. Only this time they weren't going back to L.A. The girls weren't fond of the idea of staying with their father. Of course, Diana did not have to go. At eighteen- almost nineteen, she was of the age to go to college if she wanted to. However, Diana preferred to go, much to Macy's surprise. She couldn't hide that she was however, pleased with this. She did not view easygoing Diana as college bound or even remotely ready. And she was glad Matilda would have some familiar company for the coming year.
