Chapter 4: Reflections on Human Nature

********JACE’S PROV*********

Sitting on a park bench on the outskirts of New York City I watch people pass by me. They just walk past ignoring the man in the trench coat ten feet away from me. His name is Vladimir Bakovah; he’s from the city called Russia. Never been there but I’ve read that it’s cold there. First time I meet him wasn’t on the best occasion. In fact he has me hung upside-down hanging thirty feet above the ground torturing me about information about AFM. I didn’t tell him anything and just barely escaped his grip with my life.

Vladimir is the district leader of the secret police of in district 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8. His power stretches along ways every major city has a district the only one that doesn’t have a secret police is district 3, NYC with a population of 298 million people, and the only free district in the world.  It is the city where most agency members live.

Vladimir is giving me a death stare at the moment; he knows that he cannot pass into district 3 boundaries unless he wants to be fired from his position right under the King to become a serf. I smile at him and wave beckoning him over to me. He scowls and jumps into his black hovercraft heading deeper into district 2.

I walk into a side street and hop into my Neon blue convertible hover car and speed down the street towards a little cafe. The car is paid for by agency they provide everything for me. There goes the sign saying that I just passed the sign saying that I just entered Sector 4.

Sector 4 has the largest population with 78 million people; it holds the semi rich middle class people. Sector 1, 2, Hold the billionaires, sector 3 hold the extremely rich. All three populations combined total to 16 million only a select few of the population. Sector 5 hold struggling middle class, with 65 million people. Sector 6 and 7 holds the poor in governmentally funded housing. Sector 8 and 9 is the military barracks creating a buffer zone between sector 7 and sector 10; the serfs.

It is a class system the further down the less political and economic power you have. A person is born into a class and will die into a class. There is no way of changing a class unless through marriage. The only class that you can move to is sector 10, serfdom.

It is a cruel system but it works, well not for long we are trying to destroy this system. AMF is a history orientated society. We remember and pass down Knowledge down to future and past generations. One major principal that we focus on is Liberté, égalité, fraternité, it is the motto of French revolution in 1848. The meaning is FREEDOM, EQUALITY, BROTHERHOOD (unity) even though France has changed a lot thought the centauries the motto is a good one. We want to bring this motto to the whole world. Make it truly utopian instead of this fake wonderful world that is slowly killing everyone.

I watch as Mrs and Mr. Stephenson walk across the road to the little cafe that I love to go to. I walk in and the bell above the door chimes. They could have probably had some technology do that for them but the rusted bell gave the place character.

I slide into the seat beside Mrs. Stephenson. They both look at me over the top of their newspapers. The headline news is “50% of district 1-4 is losing the battle against the economy”. Both of them have stress lines worrying too much about the economic downfall of the world.

I open my mouth to start speaking but Mr. Stephenson interrupts me “If you’re a tax collector I am afraid that you will have to come back another time we just don’t have the money quite yet I told your colleague yesterday ”

Oh this is going to be easier than I thought to convince them to let me marry Kyla. I speak with calmness “Tax collector no, I am here to ask for Kyla’s hand in marriage.” They both have a look at astonishment

“And who are you exactly young man?” Mr. Stephenson says trying to look intimidating but failing “And how do you know my daughter?”

I decide to lie a bit about how I knew her to save them some pain “I meet her a year and a half ago, I feel instantly in love with her. We were both too young,” I hope that was convincing enough as an afterthought I added “I will care for her and be the perfect husband for her.” They both started nodding their heads in agreement.

“Yes, son you have our permission, but why is Ky not here?”

“She was having a hard time coming to terms with leaving both of you. Saying goodbye to a loved one is a hard thing”

They both stand up and hug me, I am not a hugger but this felt nice. “Oh by the way I forgot, here is my completion of the law, it is your very own hospital, and all the expenses will be paid for. You two will get good use of your medical licences.” I hand a pair of keys and say my goodbyes. Heading back to the safe house where Kyla is.

I find her lying on the sofa book on the ground beside her. I pick her up and walk down to her new bedroom.  As i place her on the bed she wakes up.

“Jace....”she starts to speak but I cover her mouth with my hand

“Shhhhhh you need to sleep I’ll talk to you in the morning ok” I say soothingly. She falls back to sleep and I close the door softly behind me.

Ok so this is a filler chapter giving you a look into Jace’s head (My favorite character) and to give you some info on my “Utopian society” that I’ve created.

PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace Love
