Kallie's POV:

I sigh as I bend down to pick up the smashed tomato off of the floor. I walk back downstairs and throw it into the garbage, not paying any attention to Unity or dad. I open the cupboard and look for something to snack on, "Kallie!" Dad says making me jump. I turn to him annoyed.

"What." I say with no emotion.

"No snacks."

"Why?"

"Because I said so. You don't need to question me for everything I say."

"Whatever." I mutter under my breath closing the cupboard door.

"Watch your attitude!"

"Oh my gosh." I sigh, "I'm leaving for a while to go to self defense practice. I'll be back later on." I walk to the door and grab a sweater, put on my shoes and walk out. I run down the drive way and halfway down the street until I'm sure that if dad was watching me he couldn't see me anymore. I pull out my cell phone and see 5 new text messages. I click read:

#: Hey, It's Zach.

I smile and add him as a contact. I read the next four messages.

Zach: Where are you? I kinda miss you...

Zach: Are you ignoring me?

Zach: I guess so.

Zach: Bye..

My jaw drops, now he thinks I'm ignoring him. I quickly open a new text and type: Hey Zach, Sorry for not replying to your messages. I wasn't ignoring you, I was just busy. I'm sorry.

I look up from my phone and turn the corner and walk past my school that I haven't been to for the past week. I kick a rock along the sidewalk with me while I walk then my phone vibrates in my hand. I look down, It's Zach.

Zach: Hey! Can I call you? It'll be easier to talk..

Me: Sure.

Not even a minute later my phone rings. I pick it up, "Hey Zach." I answer.

"Hey, What are you doing?"

"Uh, going to the doctors..You?"

"Just chilling around. Why are you going to the doctors?"

"Oh, my ribs are bruised so.."

"Oh gosh. I'm sorry."

"Yeah, It's fine."

"Want some company?" He asks with a hopeful tone. I laugh and smile.

"Sure. I'm just past my school by the pizza place." I go into further detail while still kicking the rock. Once he knows where I am, he hangs up and gets a bus over to me. I walk into the coffee shop and sit at a table waiting. I tap my finger nails against the table for about 15 minutes then I hear the bell signaling that someone has entered the shop. I look over curiously and see Zach. He searches the room for me as I lean back and wait for him to see me. Once he does he a smile creeps up his face as he walks over to me.

"Hey." He says cheerfully. I give him a small wave and look out the window.

"Ready to go?" I ask at I stand up. He nods as I walk by him and push the door open. As Zach and I walk up the sidewalk he grabs my hand and pulls me back to him. He looks me in the eyes and leans down and kisses me. I smile through the kiss and pull away when I see eyes watching us. He smiles and holds my hand swinging it back and forth a couple times before just normally holding it.

After a couple laughs we get to the doctors office. Zach finds a seat in the waiting room full of people and I slowly walk to the front desk. My nervousness gets to the best of me when the skinny old lady looks up, her glasses make her eyes look huge and I can't help but let out a small laugh. The lady gives a questioning look.

"Can I help you?" She asks clicking and un-clicking her pen. I nod shyly and she gives me a 'what are you waiting for' look.

"I have an appointment." I say tapping my foot.

"Oh, I see. Well give me your name and I'll see if I can find your appointment."

"Kallie Brooks."

"Okay, just have a seat and I'll call you when I find your appointment. Now please go so I can deal with these lovely people behind you." She says motioning me to the waiting room. I nod and turn around almost bumping into a man that looks to be in his fourties.

"Sorry." I mutter as Ilook down at the ground avoiding his look.

He laughed, "It's okay, no harm done." I dart around him and look around the room and see Zack sitting in one of the cheap plastic chairs. I quickly cross the room so I am standing beside him.

"Hey." I say taking a seat next to him, he looks up at me and smiles, "She said that she'll call me up when my doctor finishes."

"Okay, so how was school?" He asks me as he brushed a strand of hair out of my eyes.

I blush at the contact as I give him a small shrug, "It wasn't anything special. Unity and I are kind of in a fight right now so we havn't talked at all. I spent all day avoiding her."

"Aww that sucks, I feel sorry for you, i'd hate to be in a fight with Seth. How's your dad been?"

"What is this? Twenty questions?" I ask jokingly, I was happy that he didn't press about why I was in a fight with my sister in the first place, I let out a sad sigh, "He's been..well him. He's so temperamental and angry lately, it's driving me crazy."

Zack wrapped me up in a tight hug careful of my ribs, "I wish I could help you some more Kallie, I really do." He kisses the top of my head and I smile into his shoulder.

"Thanks Zack, you're the best."

"I havn't really done anything." He says shrugging giving me a lop sided smile, he looks like he's about to say something else but than a nurse walks up to us.

"Excuse me sweetheart, are you Kallie Brookes?" I nod and she tells me to follow her, Zack gives me a small smile. I mouth the words 'Come with me?' and after a minute of him trying to figure out what I said he nods and walks to me grabbing my hand as we follow the nurse down the long narrow hallway.

As soon as we walk in the doctor looks up at me and smiles after writing something down, "Kallie," he greets shaking my hand, his eyes move from mine to Zach's, then back to mine giving me a questioning look.

"Oh, right. This is Zach." I say before sitting on the bed.

"Nice to meet you Zach." He reaches his arm out and shakes his hand, "Are you a close friend of Kallie's?"

Yes, Sir." Zach gives a small smile before letting go.

"Alright, so Kallie." The doctor says glancing down at his clipboard, "So the last time you were here you had some bruised ribs. Am I correct?"

"Yes."

"Okay well lets see how they are doing." After he finishes checking my ribs he writes something down and looks up at me with a smile, "They seem to be all healed."

"Really?" My eyes light up with happiness. He nods.

"Yup. Now your don't need to worry about anything."

"Yeah." I say with a slight smile before looking up at Zach, he looks back at me, "So I don't have to come back?"

"Well not unless something else happens to you."

"Okay, cool." I stand up and walk over to the door with Zach, we both turn and wave goodbye.

"Have a great day you two!"

"Bye." We say as we walk out shutting the door behind us. As soon as we get outside I turn to him.

"Want to come over to my place?" I ask with a smile. He looks at me for a second before a smirk creeps up his face.

"Sure."

"Okay, let's go," I grab his hand and we walk back to my house, "Just wait out here while I go check to see where my dad is." He nods and stands on the end of driveway. I slowly open the front door and hear my dad screaming at Unity from the kitchen. I turn to Zach and motion him in. I take off my shoes and tell Zach to bring his upstairs with him then run up to my room, quickly shutting the door behind us.
