Chapter 5: Billy

"Here!" Mike says, handing Eleven the 580 dollars.
"Thank you." she says, kissing him on the cheek.
She hands the money to Joyce. "Thank you so much. All of you. I have no clue how I am going to repay you!" Tears run down her face.
"It's no problem." Mike says, "But, Robin and Steve want their money back that they originally had. But that will only be four hundred and thirty five dollars!"
"That's fine!"
"Joyce," Eleven says, "Can I stay here?"
"Yeah, me too." Will laughs.
"Will can stay here, but El, you can't. I might need some backup.. You never know who's panties are gonna be in a bunch."
"Understandable." Mike says.
Joyce and Eleven get in the car.
"Bye Mrs. Byers! Bye El!" Mike yells, as he shuts the door.

Karen and Holly pull up at their house, and are about to go in when they hear a car beeping.
Joyce rolls down her window.
"Karen!" she yells, "I got here in perfect timing. Come here!" Karen picks Holly up and they walk over to the car.
"What's up?"
"Karen. There's no easy way to say this.." Joyce says.
"But Nancy is flayed. We wouldn't go in there if we were you." Eleven whispers. "And Jonathan is, too."
"Wait.. he is too now?!" Joyce yells.
"Yes! Get with it!" Eleven says. "They are trying to go to Russia for some reason." she points out to Karen.
"What?!" Karen yells, "Are you serious?"
"Yeah. Just, please do not go in there. They are probably both in there. You can go to Dustin's, I'm sure. That's where Mike and Will are!"
"Okay, thank you!" Karen frets, looking all around, very confused.
Joyce drives off.
"Are you okay?" Eleven asks Joyce.
"Yes. I'm just worried about my baby."
"Will is fine."
"Not Will." Joyce whispers, "Jonathan."
"Oh." Eleven gulps, picturing what might happen when she has to get the mind flayer out of Jonathan and Nancy.
"Listen," Joyce says, "I want you to know how proud I am of you."
"Really?"
"Yes. I don't think you even know how grateful I am that you came into our lives."
Eleven continues to stare out the window. "Thank you."
"No," Joyce says, "Thank you. Without you, I don't know where any of us would be. I love you." she frets, as a tear runs down her voice.
"I love you too."

"What if it flayed someone else?" Mike says, as they are all gathered around a table in Dustin's basement.
"It might have!" Steve says, "But who? Who else would it have?"
"I don't know!" Max frets, "That's the thing. We need to make sure that it's not in more than just Nancy and Jonathan when they open the gate again."
"The gate!" Lucas yells, "We should open the gate, again."
"No! That's crazy!" Mike yells, "Joyce will handle that!"
"Joyce is already under enough stress!" Lucas yells.
"You're right." Mike says, scratching his head.
"But El needs to get it out of Nancy and Jonathan before they turn themselves into a huge demogorgon..." Max frets.
"But... maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they did." Steve says, "Cause then El can kill it and we would never have to open the gate to get the mind flayer back in there."
"No!" Mike yells, "This is my sister we are talking about! And Jonathan! They would die like the other people!"
"Unless.." Max whispers.
"Unless what?" Mike asks.
"What if Billy isn't dead. What if the actual Billy was.. in there?"
"Impossible!" Mike says, "And even if he was, he'd be dead. He wouldn't have any food or any drinks or anything!"
"This is so confusing!" Max says, "And if we do something wrong, a life can be in danger!"
Suddenly, there's a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." Dustin gets up.
"No! What if it's Nancy and Jonathan?!" Mike yells.
"I'm sure it's not." Max says.
"Well, surely you weren't there last time!" Mike says.
Dustin slowly walks up the stairs, closing his eyes as he opens the door.
"Hi Dustin!"
He opens his eyes. It's Karen, Ted and Holly.
"Mike! It's your mom!" Dustin yells.
"No!" Karen says, "Can I come in, please? Or, can we come in?"
"Sure. Is it cause of your crazy daughter and her boyfriend figure who you're now afraid of?"
Karen looks at Ted, and back at Dustin.
"Yes." she whispers, guilty.
"Okay, come on in!" He points to the basement.

"Thanks for coming with me by the way!" Joyce says happily to Eleven.
"It's no problem. But, I have just been having some weird feeling. A vibe from.. Billy."
Joyce slams the break on her car.

"Mom! Can you please go away!" Mike says, "Go upstairs! Holly might be scared!"
"Fine!" Karen yells, and leaves with Holly.
"Umm.. dad.." Mike whispers, "Can you.. go, too?"
"Oh.. right." Ted says. He gets up walks up the stairs.
"So.. Which one of us are going to open the thing?" he asks.
"I'll go." Max says.
"Alright, me too, then. But we can't do it until El and Joyce come back."

"I found one!" Joyce yells to Eleven, "It's a picture of you, Billy, Max and Will! I have no clue where it came from, but it should work!" she says, after rummaging through her purse for a good 10 minutes.
"Yes." Eleven says, "But do you have water, also?"
"Yes, I do!" Joyce says, opening her car door and grabbing 3 bottles of water.
"This should work." Eleven whispers.
She sits on the ground, putting a cloth around her eyes, as the picture of Billy sits in front of her.
She looks all around, but sees nothing.
"I..." she whispers, "I don't see anything."
"Just keep looking." Joyce whispers, "Keep looking."
"Oh my gosh!" Eleven yells, "I see him!"
"Where? What is he doing?!"
"He is covered in goopy stuff." She continues to look at him. "Billy." she whispers, "Billy!"
He begins to cough, as stuff comes out of his mouth.
Eleven rips the cloth off of her eyes. "He..." she whispers, beginning to cry. "He is in the upside down."
"Really?!"

"So, we have to make a plan." Max says to Mike as the 2 are walking together around the neighborhood.
"Okay." Mike says, "But what?"
"I might have something." Max says. "So, we can knock Jonathan and Nancy out, and bring them to the place we be will have to get the mind flayed out of them. As Eleven is getting the mind flayed out of them, we will open the thingy and it will hopefully go into there."
Wow, that actually a really good plan." Mike says, "That a five year old would make up!"
"What the shit, dude?!" Max yells.
"Nancy could die!" Mike frets.
"I don't think it's actually Nancy though!"
Suddenly, Mike's walky talky begin to go off. He pulls the cord up, and adjusts it.
"Hello?" he says into it. "Is anyone there? Over."
"Mike!" Eleven says. "It's me, El!" she whispers, but the walky talky is a bit staticky.
"El!" Mike says, "What's up? Over."
"Billy may still be alive."
"What?!" Max yells, and grabs the walky talky. "Are you serious?"
"What's with you guys and not saying 'Over?'"
"Shut up!" Max and Eleven yell at the same time.
"How do you know, El? Over." Mike says.
"I looked for him."
"But that doesn't make sense." Mike says, "Does that mean that Nancy and Jonathan are too? Why is Billy's actual body in there but Nancy And Jonathan's actual bodies are still here?"
"It's a trap!" Eleven says. "It might be a trap. So that we let 'Billy' out. The mind flayer knows our plan. He doesn't want to not be on the Earth. He wants some way to always be able to destroy at all times."
"And if the mind flayer isn't here, then.. there would be no reason to ever open it again and he would never have a chance to come back." Mike frets.
"Yes." Eleven says, "Now, I have to go. Me and Joyce are going to go give the place their money." and she puts the antenna down. "Let's go." she says to Joyce.
"Okay." Joyce says, "But.. is it actually Billy? Or not?"
"I don't think so." Eleven says. "We can't chance it. If it is him, he probably would have been dead now. It's been months. No food. No water."
"This is true." Joyce says, as the 2 get in the car.

"How do we get the tickets from Joyce?" Jonathan says to Nancy as the 2 sit on Nancy's basement.
"I don't know." Nancy says, "But they are going to try and destroy us."
"I know." Jonathan says, "Which is why we must multiply."

"Thank you!" Joyce yells as she throws the money onto the table.
The 2 run out of "Airline Flights" as fast as they can.
"You're lucky you brought this!" the same man yells. "If it happens again, you're going to jail!"
Eleven and Joyce look at each other and begin to burst out laughing.
They hop in the car and drive off. "That was great!" Eleven says, still laughing.
"It really was!"

"We have our plan!" Mike yells, as him and Max fun back into Dustin's house, and to the basement.
He pulls out a huge piece of paper, and begins showing his friends. "But we all must help."
