Midnight: a Bella and Carlisle story

Chapter Twelve: Eyes

Carlisle POV

They're here. Edward brought Bella here. 

She is pushing too much to understand what happened to her, and now she is here. 

When her car door opens, I catch a tiny whiff of her scent through the open window. It is enough to make an unsuspecting vampire lose his cool and bite her. Fortunately, I am not an unsuspecting vampire. I will not allow anyone to turn her into a vampire unless she requests it and thinks about the decision for a long time beforehand. This life.. can be hell. I do not want her to have to suffer through it unless she knows what she is getting into. 

Alice has already led Jasper to one of the cabin houses in the forest and has returned. She intends to be one of the main people to talk to Bella about the existence of vampires. Alone with her, Edward, Esme, and I will be present. Edward is not very good at showing he has red eyes and not destroying something or someone, so I intend to if proof is needed. 

I see Edward leading her up the steps, and me, Alice and Esme all take a seat on a large couch. Leaving the loveseat for them. 

Bella's POV

When Edward opens the door, I am just as speechless as I was before looking at the outside of this massive house. If you can even call it a house. It's more of a mansion really. When I get enough of staring at the amazing decor, I see that a few people are in the main room. 

Edward shuts the door behind me, and I flinch a little at the sound. 

Alice, the weird girl I met in art not long ago, and Carlisle, the doctor who helped me after the accident is here. Along with a beautiful women I have never seen before. 

Edward steps in front of me. 

"This is my family. You've met Alice and Carlisle, the women beside him is my adoptive mother Esme.  Those two aren't married, but we all think of them as out parents." 

Alice jumps up, and skips over to us. "Hello again, Bella. I hope you enjoy being a part of our little family. " 

I nod in her direction, taking my eyes off of Carlisle for a moment. She acts as if I am a member of her family, but I don't question it much. She's weird. 

Alice takes my hand and leads me to a small loveseat, and then sits beside me. Edward glares at her, but then walks to the seat she used to sit in. 

I finally speak up. 

" So, ummm.... Why am I here? " I aim the question towards Edward, but Esme answers instead. 

"You are here because what Edward has to say involves all of us, and we decided this would be best. " 

Edward speaks then. 

"I know you have.. noticed.. some things about me and I would like to explain. " 

"Finally! You have been avoiding me since the car accident! Can you please tell me what the heck is going on here! How and why did you do that, and why is your entire family sitting here right now!? " I stop to take a breath, and Carlisle sighs, than speaks. 

"There is no good way to tell you this, so I am just going to say it."

"We are vampires. "

My breathing nearly stops in my chest.
