I was getting ready for the day, frustration growing within me. I stood in front of the mirror, my brownish red hair dripping from the shower. My green eyes flashing as I threw my towel. "I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ARE FIGHTING ME!!" I screamed. I threw on a blue dress with white flecks all over it. "You should just leave!" I mimicked someone in the most irritating voice I could find. "I am so sick of everyone trying to push me out of this town! Why can't they just accept the fact that I am here to stay." Exasperated I sighed sitting on my bed. "Today is my last hope... Maybe the Library will hire me..." I glanced over at the box of Callie's belonging left behind. "I swear I am going to find out what happened to you... You deserve a voice." I dropped my head, "I can't give up... I won't..." I stood up heading to the door, I turned once more to look at my house before exiting. "I CAN do this."

Once I got to town the stares I got made my skin crawl, this town will go down into history as the most cringe worthy town ever. I spotted Tarry I waved to him excitedly, but sadly he has decided to give me the cold shoulder now too. Either I did something horrible, or these people really don't like outsiders. I walked towards the library and of course it would be closed. I looked on the door for times and it should be open, I banged on the door. "Hey! Anyone in there?" No answer except the sound of something dropping. "What is your people's problem!! I just need a job!" Still no response. "I'm really getting sick of this! I'm not leaving!" I heard a cough behind me, "Excuse me, miss?" I spun full of rage to see my neighbor Ava standing there as innocent as ever. I softened my expression, "Oh, Ava I'm sorry you witnessed that..." I was ashamed at my little outburst. "It's okay miss Callie... Why do the grown ups keep talking about you? Every time they get together they do... When I walk in they get quieter, but they keep talking... Are you a bad person?" I was shocked by the question, "Am I a bad person???" I thought to myself completely taken aback by the audacity of these people. "No Ava," trying to suppress my anger, "I am not a bad person. I am just asking uncomfortable questions, and uncomfortable questions make people nervous. Next time you hear anything can you do me a favor?" The little girl all too eager nodded quickly. "Okay, ask them why they won't answer my questions. See how they respond to that, will you?" She nodded solemnly. I eased her on her way trying not to draw to much attention to her, but it's hard when people have labeled you the mad woman. "I wonder when they will try to label me clinically insane." I chuckled to myself, but then the all to real realization that that was a possibility crossed my mind. I looked around and was being watched on all angles, I dropped my head, it might be better to head home.

                                                                                                          ~

I watched her as she pounded on the library door, a smirk stretching across my face. People really hated being confronted with their own ugly truth, and this woman knew just how to present their ugliest traits on a platter. I studied her as she began to yell through the door chuckling to myself, "If she wanted to put a target on her back, she sure was doing all the right things." I thought to myself my eyes never leaving her. I had been watching her for two weeks now, she is tenacious in all she is. She was spunky, which is good, she won't get the answers she wants without a little pushing.

I watched as little Ava approached her from behind, my heart almost going out to the poor dear who was unknowingly poking a provoked cat. I held my breath, "Watch out Ava that you don't get bit..."  Surprisingly she masked her anger rather quickly, if I could I would tip my hat to her, but not just yet. I needed to remain in the shadows a while longer, I needed her to need my help, until then I wouldn't intervene. Besides, the show she was performing was rather entertaining. I enjoyed seeing these people get their feathers ruffled.

She left Ava with her head down, I glared through squinted eyes, "Come on... Don't lose that fiery spirit of yours." I perked up when she kicked the trashcan before turning the corner. "My, she is gonna make this town burn, and I am gonna buy a ticket for a front row seat." I smiled at one of Lena's waitress's as I paid my bill. I headed on to the street from the outside table I was at, I began to follow at a large distance behind Sara.

                                                                                                        ~

I limped slightly my foot hurting like crazy from the trashcan. I was just so irritated that everything I tried kept failing. I wish they could see that I want to honor Callie not expose her, I just wanted to find the truth and nothing more. I walked on staring down at the pavement hearing slight noises all around me. I sighed knowing I couldn't survive another month without a job, I needed to find one fast. While in the middle of thought I gasped as I was pulled around the corner of a building, "Wha-" A hand clasped over my mouth, "Hush, miss Sara," I knew that voice, it was Tarry, "Please forgive me, I just needed to talk to you and I couldn't on the street." I nodded and he uncovered my mouth, "It is imperative that you leave, you see," He looked around and I gave him a confused look, "I know it doesn't make sense, and I'm not suppose to say anything about it, but you ain't safe here..." He trailed off looking around and dropping his voice to a whisper. "I don't want to see your name in the news papers." Genuine concern covering his face. I placed a hand on his shoulder, "Tarry I'm okay, and besides you all have made it so hard to stay I can't afford to. I have no job." His eyes lit up, "Then when are you leaving?" "End of the month at the latest." "OH! That's good news, I'd hate ta see ya leave, but such good news." He was smiling ear to ear. "It's not good news to me. Tarry I have so many questions that I want answers too." I said pointing at him, "I only just started and I refuse to stop." He swallowed hard, "That, miss Callie, is the exact reason it is good." He turned around to walk into the shadows, taking one more glance at me, "Make sure you leave as soon as possible." Then he walked away.

I couldn't help overhearing Mr. O'Connor and knew I needed to do something, i can't just let her leave. I stayed hidden trying desperately to think of a way I can keep her here without her knowing it was me keeping her here. I banged my head lightly against the building. " I'll offer her a job! I'll offer her a job she can't refuse, and that will keep her here." I snuck away quietly heading home to put my plan into affect.

I walked through the large wooden doors, taking off my hat and scarf, I walked into the foyer. I started toward my study when a rat ran in front of me. "Ugh.. I need to get more traps set up." I walked up the stairs into the small room to see someone sitting in my office. "Get out!" "Shhh Maxwell, I only stopped by to see how you were doing. No need to yell at me." A smirk playing at his lips. I straightened my back, "Look, I don't care what you wanted, get out of my house." I pointed to the door. "You know the people in this town are going to start to suspect you don't belong here Maxwell, and it would be a shame to see you leave." His words like acid dripping off his tongue. "We will see who leaves." I slammed my fist on my desk, "I am more cunning then many people in your town know, and I'm not afraid to do what it takes. You of all people know that." His smile disappearing as he stood to be eye level with me. "Yes, we will see, but just remember whose town you are in. Don't want you disappearing, that seems to happen a lot in this town." With that he turned to leave exiting my study. I just stood there awhile staring at the door, I can never be too careful around a snake, and that man was a snake. I sat down writing a letter to Sara, "A phone interview will be scheduled shortly, cleaning will take place from 7-9pm in the mansion on the hill."
